Post #1Hello I'm new to the forum here..so a little about myself: I'm from the US, Texas to be exact and therefore grew up with religion (Christianity) as a big part of my life. It was never really for me just something to keep my parents happy. Nowadays I consider myself, for lack of a better term, atheist. I am here to gain knowledge and perspective. I'm a person of few words so I probably won't be posting very much. If you would like to know anything else, feel free to ask anytime.

Hi Mav, greetings from next door (Arkansas) and welcome to the Forum.
How old are you?
Many of us who are now Non-Theist, Atheist, Agnostic, Ignostic, etc share your, "just something to keep my parents happy". That worked for me until about age ten. I still was required to go to church, but it had become obvious that the indoctrination wasn't working.
The term "Non-Theist" isn't a bad label to attach because it avoids the implications of Atheism, which is often interpreted by Theists as DENIAL of "gods" rather than (properly defined) disbelief in "gods".

Hi mav
Welcome to the forum. I hope you like it here, and if you're looking for a word that describes your position better than atheism, you could check out agnosticism, ignosticism, apatheism, non-theism...

I'm 22. I think I began questioning the existence of god around 13, but still was required to attend church.
And yes I think you have pinpointed my problem with the term Atheist, many people cant properly define it and because of that its given a bad reputation.
