The US spends $350 Million dollars per year on fireworks for Independence Day – and a quarter of the US population does not know from what nation the US gained independence.

Perhaps the money should be spent on education. Patriotism (or nationalism) without knowledge is nothing more than emotion (or "believe on faith alone").

If all of the fireworks purchases were to be taken out of the military budget, you might have a point. Sadly, it does not work that way.
