Hello!
Post #1Hello, I found this site yesteday, and after reading many of the posts here, I decided to join. Originally, I was raised as a Jehovas Witness - but these days, what's left of my family have converted to Catholicism, and personally, I am an Occultist. But don't worry, I won't eat your puppies - I'm allergic to dogs
If a person isn't hurting anyone because of their beliefs and they treat me with respect, I see no reason to have a problem with them - and I love my Catholic family very much! But I do like a good discussion with mature people - you never learn anything new if you only talk to people who agrees with you. I hope an Occultist won't be too "scary" for you... hopefully you'll see me as just another human being.

Welcome to the forum Magick. Having never personally met an Occultist, could you elaborate a bit on what does it mean to be an Occultist? What led you to become one?

Of course... but before I begin, I think I better say that English is not my first language, so if I write something that makes absolutely no sense, don't be afraid to ask me to explain it againotseng wrote: Welcome to the forum Magick. First of all that's a question that there isn't just one answer to. If you ask someone else, you could get a very different answer. But the most important part of being an Occultist to me, and at least to the other Occultists I know personally, is the search for knowledge, the search for Gnosis, so that in the end, we're finally ready to and allowed to pass on to the next level. Something that takes more than one lifetime to achieve. I try to learn as much as I can about every belief and philosophy, in the hope that in the end, I'll be able to combine all these things somehow and get a little piece of the great truth.
It is of course also the belief in magick, the paranormal, afterlife and so on... exactly what these beliefs are about is a very individual thing, and may change over time as you gain more knowledge and experience. But one thing that seperates an Occultists relationship with these things from everyone else's, I think, is that we go down the paths that others are afriad of. It's not so black and white, it's all very grey... of course you need to have respect for certain things, and I'm not saying that a demon can't or won't do you any harm, but I won't say that it will, either. Just as it is with human beings, you have to use your head before you invite someone into your life

Hmmm... it was probably for the same reasons as anyone becomes a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim or whatever. Somehow, the Occult what was made the pieces of my personal puzzle fit together, in a way that amazed me. And I keep finding more of these puzzle pieces, even when I think there's no more left to find. I walked around with all these ideas and thoughts in my head that I thought were all my inventions, and it turned out that I had been an Occultist all the time without knowing it... so you could say that I didn't become one, I discovered that I was one. But, I have certainly been drawn to that "universe" ever since I was a small child, back when I actually thought that these things were wrong and dangerous - and I did stay away from it for years. The point where I really started to explore the Occult was when I lost my faith in Christianity, but knew I wasn't an Atheist either. And none of the other "big" religions were right for me either, sometimes I shared little parts of their beliefs, but I couldn't completely agree with any of them. The Occult fits my beliefs perfectly, and I really like the fact that it allows you to keep asking questions, instead of giving you one truth and one set of rules and that's it. Of course I can, should and have listened to other people's experiences and knowledge, but more than anything, it is up to me and no one else to find the truth.otseng wrote: What led you to become one?
To make a very long story short: I didn't become an Occultist because I watched silly teenage shows about witches or vampire killers... I can't stand Marilyn Manson, and I've never even read or seen "Harry Potter"

I hope this answered your questsions, and if not, feel free to ask again

You state that English is not your first language. What is your first language?
Yes - I was born in Denmark and have lived here all my life. But I decided to teach myself English when I was around 7 years old, so I've had a long time to learn.otseng wrote:I would've never guessed English was not your native language.
Are you currently living in Denmark? Were you born there?
