We need to encourage each other.
Post #1This idea came from the thread about being outnumbered. I think we Christians should feel free to PM another one if we are in a corner in a debate and need a hand or even just encouragement that we are doing right. It is rare that another Christian comes and posts in agreement that I have seen but it is conman for others to "gang up" in a sense.

Totally agree with you, buddy. It's totally frusterating to get on here and have to respond to six people without any backup at all. I tried for a while, but I don't have time to respond to so many people. I'm praying for the christians who are debating, though. Are we doing any good? seems like all the athiests and evolutionists are just here to argue, not to really learn anything.

I also totally agree. I just joined and looking through the topics I can see where someone might get depressed at the struggle against the very vocal opposition we seem to face here.
I just try to keep these Bible verses in my head. Hopefully they will help you.
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
And especially relevant to me as I am only in high school...
1 Timothy 4:12
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
Hebrews 11:1-2
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15
Test everything. Hold on to the good.
1 Thessalonians 5:21

Actually, I prefer being in the minority. What challenge would it be if we Christians ganged up on a single atheist? But, a few, or even one, against many with seemingly insurmountable odds, that's when it's exciting.

Though this certainly does seem to be uncommon, you might want to google the testimony of Richard Morgan, a former atheist and regular contributor to Richard Dawkins website, who converted to Christianity as a result of an online debate with Christian apologist David Robertson. This is encouraging to me, especially when I hear other Christians who say that nothing positive ever comes as a result of these online discussions. Here is the link to his appearance on the Christian radio show "Unbelievable" with Justin Brierley, as well as the downloadable mp3 for that episode.Veritas4God wrote:I'm praying for the christians who are debating, though. It is at her centre, where her truest children dwell, that each communion is really closest to every other in spirit, if not in doctrine. And this suggests that at the centre of each there is something, or a Someone, who against all divergences of belief, all differences of temperament, all memories of mutual persecution, speaks with the same voice. C.S. Thanks for the link, Kendalf. I'll look it up as soon as I can figure out why my computer headphones aren't working
It's good to know that online debating has actually helped people. I have to say, though, that I enjoy getting encouragement from you guys a lot more than I enjoy actually debating. Too much debating often leaves me completely drained. That's why I come off and on. There's actually a verse that sort of says what I mean...
"My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words." Psalm 119:139
Good to know there's other teens on here, ByFaithAlone! I though I might be the only one. Those verses are great encouragements. Thanks so much for posting them. I see you've also made some posts. How's it coming so far?
I enjoy debating . I am really praying for all the non-believers on here. They don't seem to mind me doing that when I ask them.
One verse I use for encouragement also is Psalm 46:1, one you probably know:
"God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble.
"I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts." Psalm 119:63

If any of you are interested in addressing the design flaw argument as it pertains to the eye, I've been in extended dialogue with "Atrax Robustus" and "Grumpy" in this topic. The latest exchange has been about quote-mining and strawmen. Thankfully it's only 2 versus 1, but both of them do write pretty extended responses and I'm going to be more short on time to write full replies in the next few days.
If you know any other regular debaters who is well versed on this topic and who might be interested in jumping in, please let them know!

You're doing a great job! I feel that if I posted anything in there, it would only degrade it.Kendalf wrote:If any of you are interested in addressing the design flaw argument as it pertains to the eye, I've been in extended dialogue with "Atrax Robustus" and "Grumpy" in this topic. Ha otseng! You're too modest!
My problem is that my main areas of study have been in philosophy and history of science and physics, not biology. So I may be well versed in logical fallacies and such, but it takes a lot of time to dig through the biological features of the eye!

Why is it important to prostyletize or evangelize at all? Many religions, and many Christians, refrain from both, taking the position that God loves all and is known only as a glimmer in each. Why not just have good discussions with non-christians, rather than try to win 'em over? Maybe there's more God present in those discussions than in any battles won or lost. I think God cares about faith in a deeper sense than what ideas or formulae one professes to agree to.
