Why is it okay to kill a cow but not a human?
One could make the argument that we use the meat from the cow to sustain life. It makes the death of the cow necessary for survival. Well, why cant we put man in the same context? We have elaborate, and expensive, ceremonies before we lower a corpse into the ground. Why can we not use the dead human corpse for sustenance as well?
Why is it right to use cows for food but not humans?

Post #2Social stigma, more than anything. Cannibalism is frowned upon by society, and generally viewed as a bad thing. Plus, human doesn't taste very good. XDConfused wrote: Why is it right to use cows for food but not humans?

Post #3So we're talking about the idea of killing and eating a human?Confused wrote:Why is it right to use cows for food but not humans?
Or are we talking about... like if a human gets hit by a bus, dies abruptly, and we eat him?
If we're taking functional people out of society and using them for food that could have a detrimental affect on the general function of our community. Currently we are way overpopulated though, so that rational doesn't really hold without qualification.
The idea is yucky in general because of social stigma (as said earlier). There's no reason to favor one meat over another aside from taste/texture type opinions. *shrug*

Cows make for better burgers.confused wrote:Why is it right to use cows for food but not humans?
As the English comediene Jo Brand says: if we're not supposed to eat meat why does bacon taste so good?
Eating humans is a social taboo that prevents a lot of revenge dinner parties. On the whole cows are not vengeful. They are generally safe to eat without fear of reprisal. If there was no taboo against eating humans then eat a neighbour and you are in hot water.....maybe literally.

Post #5I ate some roasted monkey meat once and didn't care much for it. No, it didn't taste like chicken. It tasted more like . . . . me!Homicidal_Cherry53 wrote:Social stigma, more than anything. I've always favored the idea of Jonathan Swift, the Anglican/Episcopal minister who wrote Gulliver's Travels, that "children make an excellent source of food": young and tender?
The elderly might be too bony and flavorless. But, Yuppies and their puppies might be tasty.

Only during foreplay.
I am remind of the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs says to the witch, "Sham on your, eating children" the old witch says in return, "Call it a weakness".

As a naval officer I abhor the implication that the Royal Navy is a haven for cannibalism. It is well known that we now have the problem relatively under control, and that it is the RAF who now suffer the largest casualties in this area. And what do you think the Argylls ate in Aden. Arabs? Yours etc. Captain B.J. Smethwick in a white wine sauce with shallots, mushrooms and garlic.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

Times like this, I am glad to be vegan (even if I do miss the meat until I visualize it and the vision elicits that vomiting response compliments of chemo,McCulloch wrote:As a naval officer I abhor the implication that the Royal Navy is a haven for cannibalism.
