Hi,

I'm a Christian, believe in Sola Scriptura. I love science. I was a devout Atheist until I pondered the absurdity of abiogenesis and MACRO-evolution. I own my own small software consulting firm for the toll road industry.

I love motorcycles, and currently have 2, a 2003 Triumph Sprint ST, and a 2009 Honda CBR600RR ABS.

I have been married 16 years to my wonderful bride. Our (adopted) son is currently deployed in Iraq.

I have a YouTube page with 25 subscribers! Woot, I'm surprised to have 1.

That's it for now.

Thanks, me too. I've been posting some videos on YouTube and you would not believe the rudeness of Atheists typing bravely behind their keyboards. Maybe this group will be a little more civil.

I think that if you keep an open mind, you will find that we hold little tolerance for disrespect from anyone, regardless of their beliefs. That being said, a note of caution, because we are debating by typing rather than by vocalizing, it is easy to misinterpret a comment made and take it to be an insult rather than something benign with the lack of facial expressions and vocal intonation. It is usually best to clarify something before assuming. But we are all human and subject to moments of temporary insanity. It is inevitable that some days, comments might be a bit snippy. That being said, I hold much respect for some of our members who will issue apologies etc... when they go a bit insane and it is pointed out to them.

A good general rule of thumb.... debate the topic, not the person.

I don't visit YouTube enough to know what kind of comments are generated there. I mostly visit that site when comments are made regarding Monty Python skits and need a laugh. But I hope you find your experience here to be a bit more pleasant if not challenging and insightful.

Time will tell. I understand people being people and making mistakes. It's another thing entirely to be called a 'loser' or and 'idiot'.

Those would be ad hominems and we hold no tolerance for personal attacks. My only suggestion here would be to report the violation so we can address it, but please, don't respond to it. It has a tendency to attract enough comments to take threads entirely off course, get them locked, and makes it nearly impossible for us to intervene on just the initial offender as so many follow in their wake.

On the whole, I hope your experience remains positive and I look forward to seeing your contributions to the debates.

Welcome to the forum.

What, exactly, do you intend to convey with your comment? Do you mean to imply anything more than that you have encountered rude comments from people you think of as "Atheists"?

How do you define the term "Atheist"? How can you tell if a person is an "Atheist"? How can you tell if a person is a "Christian"?

It is possible to CAUSE negative or rude comments by what we present. For instance, your comment above suggests that you set yourself apart from "Atheists" and think of "Atheists" as a group.

Do your religious beliefs make you superior to or more successful than "Atheists"? Do you feel as though you have an advantage over "Atheists"?

Notice that I am not an Atheist and do not attempt to speak for any Atheist.

Again, welcome to the forum. Be prepared to defend your ideas and statements. This is the most fairly moderated religious debate forum I have encountered in years of Internet debate. It is owned and administered by a Christian who is an outstanding debater. It is moderated by a team of dedicated people, half of whom are Christians.

The "playing field" is very level -- no partiality is shown toward any point of view. Such fairness is not always appealing to those who come from environments in which their views are given preference or are not challenged.

Welcome

I am sure that we will disagree shortly. I am an atheist, although I don't understand how an atheist can be devout. I was a Bible believing Christian, and I cannot reconcile a love of truth and science with divinely revealed religion. I agree with the ER nurses who call motorcycles donercycles. I have been married for 27 years our adult handicapped sons have yet to be fully deployed in the community.

We try to maintain a level of respect here. That involves debating the ideas and the evidence and not the debaters.

Please don't take offense at my comment. I was only speaking from my personal, limited experience on YouTube. The reason why I believe they were Atheists, is that I often (not always, I'll admit) check their own pages to verify the source of the comment. Invariably (in my own, limited experience) the rudeness comes from Atheists.

I also am very careful to present my videos as addressing topics and ideas, not the people. However, people can take an 'attack' on their beliefs, as an attack on them.

I want to talk about such issues, and learn how to debate. But I am finding that YouTube may not be the forum to (at least) learn debating skills.
Do your religious beliefs make you superior to or more successful than "Atheists"? Do you feel as though you have an advantage over "Atheists"?
No, I am not superior to them. I believe my beliefs are superior (IE right, as opposed to wrong) to theirs.
