Say the bible is true and you actually do make it to Heaven. What will you say to Adam when you meet him?
It was the actions of Adam that is the reason why we were cursed and why there is so much suffering in the world. It was due to his rebellion and his mistakes. So will you want to beat the crap out of him? Will you congratulate him perhaps? Thank him that you got to live on this earth? Maybe you'd like to thank him for all the evil b'stards that are burning in hell right now or scream at him because one of your loved ones is burning in Hell?
What would you say to him?
What will you say to Adam?

Post #1Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

I'm not going there if the christains are correct.
However assuming they are right and I get a get out of hell free card I would probably give him a high five for giving me a chance to tick off theists on earth.

Tell him I'd have done the same thing in his place.
''''What I am is good enough if I can only be it openly.''''
''''The man said "why you think you here?" I said "I got no idea".''''
''''Je viens comme un chat
Par la nuit si noire.
Tu attends, et je tombe
Dans tes ailes blanches,
Et je vole,
Et je coule
Comme une plume.''''

Moral sense.
Post #4Scripture indicates that to have a moral sense, we must eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
God and Churches work hard to help us develop this sense to a higher degree over time.
If Eve and Adam had not eaten of it then we can say that we would have no moral sense and we would not be able to judge the various gods on the menu and would be like sheeple, not knowing much of anything, instead of thinking people who know right from wrong.
I am not gay but Adam would get a great big wet kiss for helping lead the way for man to become not only sentient, but also intelligent and moral.
Even many believers who still call our expulsion from the garden, a fall instead, as in my view, a glorious leap, have said that they support Eve‘s decision and would not hinder her approach to the tree.
So a big thanks and kiss for both Adam and Eve.
Better a life as a knowledgeable people, than eternal life as a sheeple ignorant of morals.
Regards
DL

This is very interesting. So far everyone seems to think that Adam did the right thing, eating from the tree. Or at the very least can't be blamed for it, nor for the fall of man. Very interesting.
I'm surprised we haven't seen any Christians comment yet. Adam (and Eve) are responsible for all the suffering, pain and evil in this world, due to the inability to follow one simple rule. Shouldn't those who believe this story harbour at least some resentment towards Adam? Don't you really feel the urge to at least hold him accountable for the personal suffering of your loved ones?

Even foolish Fundamentals recognize that this rule deserves to be broken.

I think that is the only logical conclusion to come to. The silence of the Christian members seems to strongly indicate this. They just can't criticise or blame Adam and Eve for something like this, for being unable to follow one little silly rule. But yet they don't want to be seen as justifying them either. I mean what sort of person would it make you if you treated Adam and Eve like heroes or celebrities?Greatest I Am wrote:The rule he broke was though shall remain stupid.OnceConvinced wrote:This is very interesting. "Hey Adam! It's great to finally meet you! I've been a fan of yours since I first read the stories about you. Ok, your inability to follow a simple rule caused us all terrible suffering and pain througout our lives, it caused evil to run rampant, it caused God's unquenchable wrath to be upon us. But hey you're alright with me, dude!"
Nup. Can't see it really.

By rights, Adam should be the most despised man in the bible, but even as a Christian I could never hold any ill-will towards him. Who can?
It seems Christians deep down believe that Adam and Eve didn't really do anything all that bad. That what Adam and Eve did was inevitable considering they didn't know the difference between good and evil and considering Satan/Talking Snake was there to manipulate them. It's really an impossible task to expect a human to follow the rules all the time. Sin is inevitable. Most of us probably would have done the same thing in their position.
If the whole story of the Fall of man is literally true, it just goes to show what an irrational and illogical God, the God of the bible is. To curse all mankind for one silly little mistake, a mistake one could argue he set them up to make. He knew right from the beginning the ramifications of creating Satan and letting him run wild. He knew the ramifications of putting in a test that he knew his creations would fail. Worst of all, he couldn't even give them another chance. One little mistake and they were out. That is not merciful, loving or just, especially when you consider that he's making all of us pay for the mistake of two naive and ignorant people.
Nope, I don't believe Christians really blame Adam and Eve for all the strife they have to put up with. So if Adam and Eve are not to blame, who is? I can't see how it can be Satan/The talking snake, after all he didn't create himself and he didn't release himself out into the universe to cause trouble. He certainly didn't force Adam and Eve to eat the fruit. Who does that leave to hold responsible? Perhaps the apathetic, complacent, negligent God himself? After all, he was the one who set the rules, he was the one who created the test he knew they would fail, he was the one who unleashed Satan on his creation, he was the one who created Adam and Eve with a rebelious human nature, he was the one who threw them out of the garden and cursed all mankind. He didn't have to do any of that.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Get some dang britches on boy, don't you know this is all your dang fault!
Here you went a'cavortin' round with that Eve, and you know she's a fancy sort anyhow. We been busting our plows and scraping seeds into the ground cause you hadda get on your high horse? It were'nt enough you had to get your own fool self into trouble, no not you. You hadda go ruin it for every dadgum one of us from here to Hog Mountain. I've had it with you 'n your high falutin' ways. I'm fixin' just knock a knot on yer noggin' and be done with you.
Now run fetch me a pail o' water. Is it always this hot here?
