A Little Place to Chat About Video Games
Post #1Since McCulloch started threads about just about everything else, I thought I'd start one on video games. What games are you currently playing? What are some of your favorite games? What is your favorite genre?

I highly recommend Morrowind, or the later sequel, Oblivion. Both are open-ended, much in the style of the GTA series, except that they're fantasy RPGs. You don't have a quest log to keep up with, just a journal of what people tell you that might be relevant. You can choose to do what they ask, or choose not to. You can steal items in shops, you can pickpocket, and you can kill whomever you like. All of these actions have consequences, though, so make sure you don't get caught or you'll become an outlaw. When you're an outlaw, most merchants won't deal with you, most people won't talk to you, and guards will arrest you on sight.msmcneal wrote:I like the GTA games, mainly because of their ability to go anywhere and do anything. If you get tired of the main game, just go around town, there's plenty of other stuff to get involved in. If they would do that for an RPG, I'd be in heaven (metaphorically, of course).
This isn't the end of the choice-making, though- you have options when they arrest you. You can either pay the fine for your crimes, go to jail (in which you lose all stolen items, some experience, and ranks in random skills, due to not using them during your sentence), or you can resist arrest and fight the guard(s)!
It was a blast for me, because it allowed me to live out who I would really be in that situation. The game takes a while to get going, though, due to the fact that they essentially "drop you off at the curb" and leave you to make your own way through from there. Once you get into it, though, it's a lot of fun. If you do end up playing... save often! You never know when you might run into something or somebody ten times as powerful as you.

First, what server are you on on WoW? I'm on thrall and have the following charsNegative Proof wrote:Wow, my thread exists!
So yeah, I'm a big gamer. I spend most of my free time on here and playing video games.
First off, I'm a WoW (World of Warcraft) nerd. For anybody who plays, I've got a level 75 Blood Elf Shadowpriest.
I think I'll attempt my first ever all-time top 5:
1. Diablo II
2. Final Fantasy Tactics
3. Chrono Trigger
4. World of Warcraft
5. Morrowind (Elder Scrolls III)
As you can tell, I love RPGs. Character creation and customization is where it's at for me. The closer games get to simulating the experience of rolling a pen and paper D&D character, the happier I am (yes, I've also played tabletop D&D).
I have a pretty broad history with video games. My first system was an Atari 2600. I later got a Commodore 64 from my uncle. I don't have it any more, but I'd bet that wherever it is, it still works. I spent months playing the old gold box AD&D games. From there, I've owned (at one time or another) an NES, Super NES (both of which I still have hooked up in my living room), Genesis, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Xbox, Xbox 360, and now a Wii.
Two shameful admissions:
I never owned a PS2.
I've never played Starcraft. Not even once...
So currently, I'm playing World of Warcraft (of course, it never ends), Call of Duty: World at War, and World of Goo for Wii. If you're looking for something different, but still insanely entertaining and viewable as art... go for World of Goo. It's a relatively short game, but has good replay value. It ruled my world for about 3 days (in between work, of course).
It makes me happy that this thread exists.
Paladin(my main) level 80: Protection
Rogue level 80: Subtlety
Priest level 76: Holy
Death knight level 72: Frost
Warlock level 64: Destruction
shaman level 49: Elemental
Hunter level 43: Beastmaster
Mage level 35: Frost
Warrior level 35:Protection
druid level 29: Resto
Yes, I used to play far, far too much.
as for elder scrolls 4: oblivion, that is a pretty good game for any who like rpgs. may take a little while to get used to, the ability system is a little odd, but it gets fun. lately I've been playing it some and have an alchemist who is so good, he can make poison out of potatoes and radishes. He is also an assassin, and a vampire.(you can get turned into one in the course of the game)
I also played elder scrolls 3: morrowind I'm not entirely certain which I like better. 4 has some nice, convenient things in it, but it is in some ways more limited than 3 is.

I spent over 100 hours playing Oblivion and got to the point where I'd had enough of the repetitious dungeons. But I had played the special version of it with the two expansion packs, so I had gone very far. But I'll definitely be purchasing the next in the series if there is one.
I love RPGs. My favourits are:
FFX
FFVIII
Shining Force 1 & 2 (If you like FF Tactics, you'll love these classic Sega games which are coming out in a pack of classic sega games for PS3 soon.
Suikoden series (love being able to find recruits and build up and entire city of people.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Anetheron. From what I understand, it's a pretty bad server. Always been low pop and cliquish. But, meh, I enjoy it. If you feel like rolling on there, or just wanna give me a shout, my priest's name is Haychew.FinalEnigma wrote:First, what server are you on on WoW?
Indeed... wow. You Horde or Alliance? Since you've been playing a while and your main is a pally... I'm betting Alliance. Which makes me sad.FinalEnigma wrote:I'm on thrall and have the following chars

I played those games several years ago on an emulator, and I remember really enjoying them. That's cool they're coming out for ps3.OnceConvinced wrote:Shining Force 1 & 2 (If you like FF Tactics, you'll love these classic Sega games which are coming out in a pack of classic sega games for PS3 soon.
I have a good friend who swears by Suikoden 2. I've personally never had the desire to play it, though I might try it sometime soon if my buddy still has the discs.OnceConvinced wrote:Suikoden series (love being able to find recruits and build up and entire city of people.

This'll surprise you - I play WoW. Sadly we are unlikely to come across each other in-game, because I am on the European servers. I can't believe that FA has 2 lvl 80s and 2 lvl 70-odds already. I have one lvl 80 (mage), a lvl 60 DK, a lvl 50-something rogue and a whole host of low-level characters that I got bored with.

Nonsense. In case you haven't been informed in-game, girls don't play WoW.Fallibleone wrote:This'll surprise you - I play WoW. Impressive, though. I got wrath a little late (end of december) so that's why I'm lagging a bit. And yeah, most of the characters I have are ones I got bored with... usually right around level 15.
Same question to you - Horde or Alliance?
Oh, and Final, I think we're also in Stormstrike. Been a while since I've done BGs, but I vaguely remember seeing people from Thrall. Wouldn't be surprised if we've destroyed one another in Arathi Basin at some point or another.

Hey, when you make your DK, shoot Haychew a letter in-game and throw him on your friends list.

I have both Horde and Alliance, but my highest lvl characters are Alliance.
