I get the feeling that the real question is "What is our Purpose in life," where 'Purpose' does not equal 'purpose.'

I.e., Purpose = an objective purpose in life that applies to all human beings, regardless of belief or creed

purpose = anything meaningful in life that becomes a primary driving force for you.

Me, I don't believe that "Purpose" exists, although some may think it does. As for "purpose", yeah it's whatever you find meaningful or worthy of pursuit.

why should life extrinsically have purpose? Does the life of a whale, or goat, or amoeba have any less or more purpose?

Why is it difficult for some to accept that we just are. We exist like every thing, living or not, exists. We are made of the same matter as all else and ultimately, as Carl Sagan so eloqently stated, we are all stardust.

I don't know about your purpose in life (or anyone else's), but today my purpose in life is to relax, enjoy a tasty dinner, and perhaps take the very lovely msmufin out shopping.

Tomorrow, my purpose may change.

What is our purpose in life?

Without an aim, our purpose in life is to maintain this existence by the sacrifice of lower forms of life. Our lives in turn are sacrificed for the maintenance of higher forms of life.

With an Aim, our purpose is to become the fulfillment of such an aim.

In the universe, everyone of us know that everything is in motion. Purpose pertains to human action. This action is already determined from a mental intention of focus, an Aim.

When we all are born, we are already determined to a certain extent to fulfill a certain purpose as we are interwovenly connected to our surrounding environment.

This purpose is studied by countless scientists, trying to figure out why without understanding that if an Aim is fulfilled, then we exist on the level of that Aim. The higher the Aim the bigger the climb. If our Aim is to become perfect then when that Aim is fulfilled.......

Purpose of Life in the NT

Post by proverbial student »

I think our Purpose in life is outlined in the NT:

Matt 22: 36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[2] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[3] 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
what if it is all a lie
Then our lives are meaningless because we are just dust in the wind aimlessly floating about until we rest forever.

Well said. You know, the whole Bible can be summed in up in those two commandments right there.
