A little place to just chat about Movies. What have you watched recently? Was it good? Should it be nominated?

Two words: "The Crow". Best movie ever. There's really no need to watch anything else. Actually, I don't watch movies much, but I do have a few other favorites. "John Carpenter's 'Vampires'", "The 13th Warrior", "The Matrix" (just the first one, it got kind of boring after that), and "Blade". I also like the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, but my wife can't really tolerate sitting through them. I also like the first three "Karate Kid" movies, they're classics. All the "Lethal Weapon" movies, and "Men In Black I and II". Actually, anything with Will Smith, except "Wild Wild West" are really good. I like the "Mummy" trilogy. I also like the "Rush Hour" movies. I think that's about it.

Some of my favourites: Terminator, Back to the Future, Reservior Dogs, Shawshank Redemption, Dawn of the Dead, Platoon.

Best movie I've seen lately:

Twilight. A very original vampire movie and no it's not gruesome or nasty like most. Very good story line.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

OK

We love movies - really only watch movies - not much TV at all. I hate it. The commercials always make me forget what I'm watching, plus cause me to buy unneccesary goods and products :-)

A couple of nights ago we watche "Mongol". My husband & I both liked it - it's sub-titled, but easy - forget you're even reading after a few minutes. It's a story of Gingas Kahn. It was a good story - lots of action!

A good sad movie I liked was "When did you last see your father?" Story of a son's struggle with his dying father & their issues. I think it's British. Very good - but serious heartbreaker :-(

I noticed this in the video shop and made a mental note that I must get it out. I enjoy watching these moves that are based on real people and real history, even if the story has been embellished a lot.

I just finished watching "Snowcakes" (2006) with Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver shot in of all places, Wawa Ontario.

Weaver portrayed an autistic adult. She evidently studied it well, she did it quite convincingly.

I usually watch horror or thriller movies. But the most recent movie I watched was "The Happening". It was good. The idea of mother nature fighting back to protect herself (earth) just seems right.

Personally I'm not really into violent films and such, nor the mainstream. In my opinion they tend to be very predictably.

Two of my favourite films are

"Turtles can fly" A real heartbreaker, it's about a bunch of Kurd kids just before Iraq gets invaded.

"Mongolian Ping Pong" This one has some incredibly beautiful scenery and a moving storyline, a few young Mongolion boys find a pingpong ball, not knowing what it is they find out it belongs to China and then decide to bring it back.

Hi Joe and welcome.

I used to love blood n guts type movies. But as I matured my tastes matured as well. In fact those sort of movies now seem rather unnecessary and repellent now. If they have a good story line then it's ok. Like Reservior Dogs for instance. Fantastic movie, but very violent. Made me a huge fan of Steve Buscemi.

Funnily enough, even now as an ex-Christian nothing has changed. I haven't suddenly started having a taste for violent movies again.

My favorite movie has got to be Smokey & The Bandit. You know you're a redneck if ya have your own copy. Sheriff Buford T. Justice is the spitting image, visually and personality wise of my dad. To this day when my nephews come to visit, the first thing they want to do is watch it.

I'm lucky in that my favorite book is also one of my favorite movies. I read Jurassic Park, and soon after my son and I saw the movie. It was a joy watching my son watch the movie. He was real into dinosaurs, and was rattling names off every time a new one came up. He'd have to, not optionally, have to tell me all about each new critter in the movie. I would say I didn't so much watch the movie as I did my son, but man, what a great way to live.
I might be Teddy Roosevelt, but I ain't.
