Exam Month

Post by Evales »

Well it's exam time here. I was going to say exam week but it's three weeks haha. So I'll be spending a lot more time on here procrastinating my study.

Just wondering what exams people here have done. And what sort of job/ qualifications they have led to. If it's not too personal :)

I have taken a wide variety of exams -- from GED (for high school equivalency diploma) to advanced graduate school tests. In the process and after the process I became a college / university professor -- "the best job in the world" (forty years ago) -- tenure, twelve hours per week, seven months per year, every seventh year off at half pay for sabbatical, excellent salary and benefits -- AND I retired at age forty and have had almost thirty years of a freedom lifestyle since (with small pension).

I was "test wise" – able to maximize performance on tests. Many of my contemporaries probably knew more about some test subjects but may have been less capable of demonstrating that on tests. The more demanding the test, the more I felt it was to my advantage. I did not "cram" or "stress-out", but simply went on what I was confident that I knew. Very seldom was I disappointed – and many times I was astonished by how well things went.

Best wishes in your exams. May you earn exactly what you deserve.

My you are a lucky bugger. Yes I don't stress out with my tests/exams. Sitting down and answering questions is what I have been doing for my whole school life after all Haha. Unfortunately I crammed for the exam I will be doing in about an hour.

Good luck with your exams Evales. Hope all goes right in your neck of the woods. I'm kinda like Zzyzx too. I have to take a lot of tests in my work, and I am always studying for them. I guess really the only difference is mine are drug tests, but if you gotta study all tests are the same, right?

I'm in the UK. Tests every year at secondary school (some counties have grammar schools which you need to pass the '11 Plus' to get into), GCSEs at 16 (I only took 7 but should have taken 8 - some people these days take more. My other half took 12. These are normally spread out over a couple of weeks), 'A' Levels at 18 (advanced levels - normally you do 3, as did I. The other half did 4, also usually over a fortnight), end of year exams for my BA in English and History for the first two years and then the 'finals' at the end of the last year, several more exams (spread over 10 days) at the end of my MA course. So yes, I've done a few tests in my time. I've found them not to necessarily judge competence in a given subject, but rather competence at sitting exams.

Now I've decided to retrain, but am happy to report that performance assessment is based on taped sessions (I'm training to be a psychotherapist), presentations, case studies and assignments. No exams. Huzzahs!

I always did just enough to get through school. However as an adult he got my Bachelor in Information Technology degree and I worked really hard to do well in that one. I've sort of got to the point now where I've had enough of education, ie, enough betting qualifications and attending work courses. So i try to avoid them whereever I can now.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
