*floats into the forum*
Post #1Hi, I'm new. I'm a thirteen-year-old atheist, a proud ex-Catholic (viz., I know it could have been much, much worse in what I used to believe due to parental influence), and I am new to this forum. *waves and starts accumulating a usergroup list as large as others'*

That is because you ARE old and wrinkly, but don't worry, there are other people who are older and more wrinkly than you too.Furrowed Brow wrote:I feel so old and wrinkly.......sigh.......

So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Well, a brief summary, in ages.
AGE EIGHT: Cannot wrap mind around concept of God.
AGE NINE/TEN: Serious doubts. I think at this point I labeled myself an agnostic.
AGE ELEVEN: I decide once and for all that I don't believe.
AGE TWELVE: Enters a hardcore atheist phase, involving literature and attempts to convert friends and family to atheism.
AGE THIRTEEN: I think I may actually be working on Dad.
Personally, I'm still a little pro-Catholic. That is, I definitely think that we're a little saner than Protestants.
I have "ex-Catholic pride". It's the only thing that keeps me sane what with going to Church at parents' demand (not to mention getting confirmed... classes started ON MY BIRTHDAY). If I could find somebody who agrees with me, we need a usergroup.
*fiddles happily with Homicidal Cherry's thunder and shoots some bolts at Furrowed Brow* You do realize that some of that wrinkliness is caused by the furrowing of your brow, yes?

Did you really "decide" that or was it an inescapable conclusion that you came to? ie. Was it a realisation that "hey, I don't believe".1angelette wrote:AGE ELEVEN: I decide once and for all that I don't believe.
I ask that because there are many Christians who claim that unbelief is a choice. Hard to believe they could believe such a fallacy, but there you go.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Wow...I was such a dumb child. At 13, I was still convinced that it was some fault of mine that all that God stuff didn't make any sense.

It certainly gives me a clue...which should give you a clue. Except you don't need a clue. Because my age is under my avatar. Someone shoot me now.Beto wrote:I already had a Spectrum by then... which gives a clue to my age, I suppose.

Now, that is a perfectly acceptable age to me. I found 35 to be a wonderful age to be at (looking back that is).Fallibleone wrote:It certainly gives me a clue...which should give you a clue. Haha, Fallibleone I’m younger than you!
But only by 3 years…
I used to have a ZX Spectrum too.

Welcome, angelette. I'm glad you're interested in discussing these topics, especially at your age. At that age, as far as I can remember, I thought I knew all the answers and was convinced I could defeat any atheist or other non-Christian in an argument. I quickly learned otherwise.
Even now I don't know that I could. But, I'm learning.
So welcome again.
