Is church a good relationship killer?

Post by Lostsoul »

I am a college sophomore and my now ex-gf is a HS junior. 3 years, 4 months and 9 days age difference. we have a problem however.

We attent two different nondenominational churches, and because of this, her father, and her mother have made me out to be a non-christian, and that i dont have jesus with me, and am bad person at heart. they have even told me this to me on the phone. (we have never met face to face)

What ended up happening was the my ex and i chose not to listen to her parents, but to sneak out to meet each other. (not at night. but like, walking to the park and such to talk)

the problem, is that her parents found out, and went on a rather rash spree, they cut us off, and turned most of my friends and her friends against me. now, most of the people i talk to believe i have done nothing but make this poor girl miserable, and have done nothing but cause her pain, and make her change for the worse.

i feel horrible, but since we have no contact, i cant explain my feelings.

I would like opinions on this, and wether the parents actions were appropriate for the situation(I.E. church being a defining factor to cancel a relationship.)

i know we could have handled her parents predjudice better, but, o well. idk. :(

Join her church.

ah, sorry. i left a bit of info out on that part.

you see, her dad believe to no end that i am bad, and has "asked" me not to bother attending their church, because it wont make any difference.

im bad, and thats the end of it in his eyes.

Get her pregnant. Marry her. [in the other order if you prefer]

LOL. i like the creativity, but me, and my ex both agreed that extramarital sex was out of the question.

so we are stuck with only one choice it seems, wait until she graduates, and let her move in, and then proceed with the marrying and such.

I did not suggest merely attending her church. Church is not something that Christians with a biblical understanding of church go to. The church is something that a believer is a part of. Don't go to church. Be the church. You want to get into her life and the life of her family. Their church is an important thing. Become an integral part of her family's church. Learn what is important to them (in contrast to what is important to your current group) and embrace them wholeheartedly. Make them believe that you would be a part of that group, even without her. (sincerity is difficult to fake).
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

Wait a minute, you're 19-ish and she is 16-ish? Dude! That's illegal, disgusting or both. I don't care if you're not having sex, you are screwing with a young girl who needs to form her mind through her experiences, not some guy who should be looking for college chicks.

Forget the church thing, enjoy college and date women who are your own age. You probably screwing her up for life. Consider her emotional and mental development over your hormones.

You're the adult, she is a child.
Imagine the people who believe ... and not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible.... It is these ignorant peoplewho would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us...I.Asimov

lol she is 17, and i am almost 19. not creepy. and ive considered it. she is just as willing to try to keep us together as i am.

we do consider this an experience for us both, not just me looking to "hook up", and, at the college i attend, most "chicks" arent worth my time. im happy where i was at.
i just wanted to know outside opinions on how to hand the situation.

for the time being, me and her have decided to wait until december to try and start again, because we just cant seem to get through to her parents im not sick, or illegal.

i admire the help McCulloch

Honestly, don't rush things, even after she graduates. Areas where people marry early tend to have a higher divorce rate.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?
