Hello.
*Puts hat back on*
My name is Jessi. I am 23, and I live in a small town in Texas. I posess big feet, pointy elbows, and a loud guffaw. I came upon this site thanks to my better half, my husband. You may or may not have heard of him. He goes by the name of Negative Proof. From what he has shown me, this is a delightful forum, one in which I am eager to become involved.
Here's my story: I am a Christian. I have not read the Bible front to back. I am not familiar with many other religions, but have merely heard a summary and thought, 'Hmm, interesting. I must know more about this.' My claim is simple: I don't have much of a righteous or intelligent claim. I may be right or wrong about my belief in God, but to claim I am right is a hinderance to me and to the people around me. I may have no more knowledge about my own religion than I do about religions or beliefs that I've just heard of.
I know. Fortune cookies have more definitive, logical claims. But I do have a purpose: to learn. I am here to learn, ask questions, and grow. I have no doubt that your knowledge will help me in this endeavor. I am a little slow, and my emotions outweigh my lack of intellectual curiosity. I will try to keep up as much as I can. If I end up splitting hairs just for splitting hairs' sake, please don't take it as outright ignorance; I am simply trying to understand. On the other hand, if I end up sounding like the hindquarters of a horse, do send me a virtual slap, and then we can all move on.
I am open and honest. I will not always be palatable, but I do have manners. And I look forward to reading your stuff.
Virtually,
Jessi

Welcome to the forum, Salve Adore.
I must admit, I look forward to reading your posts. We talk about these things in person, but an audience of readers who can interject at any point can only lead to greater intellectual integrity.
As Zzyzx cautioned me when I joined, posting here can be fun, informative, and very habit forming. There are nights when this is all I do.

Post #5Welcome Jessi. If nothing else, this place will be an education. It must be an interesting marriage, being a Texas Christian married to an atheist. I am sure you will go through a journey of self discovery here, as well as learn about many aspects of religion.Salve Adore wrote:As a fellow citizen of the Earth, I take my hat off and give a formal bow.

“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

You'd be surprised. We actually have very different work schedules, and therefore very different sleeping patterns. As one member astutely observed, it is an "interesting" marriage.Reflectionist wrote:Wouldn't she already know?

Not particularly. We are one another's best friend, so it's easy for us to sit down and talk about anything we need to talk about. Also, it's rare for us to go an entire day without seeing one another, though that does happen on occasion. But we make it work, and our time off together is spent together.Reflectionist wrote:Really? That must be tough, yeah?

Why the interest, if I may ask?
