Welcome to the forum.
I prefer to identify as a Non-Theist to avoid definitions and connotations of other terms and to avoid the "degree" issue.
Some Theistic members of this forum do not understand ANY non-belief – and many consider non-belief as a belief and non-theism as a religion. Perhaps that reflects a worldview dominated by beliefs rather than reason.
I look forward to reading your posts.

hi Dex,
Anyhow good debating.
Sheep and Apple ipods are without belief in god or gods. But I would not call either atheists. So that defintion needs some work I think. As it happen I - like sheep and ipods - lack a god belief. But I have another belief. There is no god or gods. And it is this belief I feel distinguishes me from an ipod.Dex wrote:Atheism means one thing and one thing only.

theist mean belief in god or gods.
A meaning without.
thus the reason why Atheism means without belief in god or gods.
also ipods are inanimate where as Atheism refers to the animate.

Re: saying hello
Post #7Welcome
For me, it depends on the definition of a god. I disbelieve the traditional God of the monotheists, but I don't believe in the god of the deists.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, there does seem to be at least two types of atheism. There are the atheists who don't have a belief in God or gods. Then there are those atheists who take it further and believe in the non-existence of God or gods.Dex wrote:Atheism means one thing and one thing only.

Welcome Dex! Glad to have you with us.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
