If all the fruits of science disapeared today, could we function as a society? Without all our technology and knowledge, we'd be back to the dark ages or worse.
If all the fruits of religion disapeared today, would anyone notice? Aside from the positive changes to the mid east I mean.
Which should we be looking to phase out?
A world without science or religion?

Re: A world without science or religion?
Post #22Sweden is populated by millions of atheists, is almost a completely secular society, and enjoys a high degree of prosperity. Sweden is nothing like BNW.Fisherking wrote:What would prevent Huxley's world from coming to pass if all traces of God and religion were removed from society?
Your argument is terrible.
"I read a book about a world without religion so if religion were removed it would be exactly like the book."
You need to support why a religionless world would be like BNW. Please do so in your next contribution to this thread or we'll consider the matter moot.
I'm afraid you're mistaken. While religion does have an aspect of philosophy to it, both religion and science offer truth claims about the real world. Both Christianity and Science endeavor to explain how the universe came to be and how human beings came into existence. Science uses logic, reason, evidence, and is self-correcting. Religion uses the dogma of bronze age hippies and demands individuals use a different set of intellectually bankrupt rules to establish "truth".BeHereNow wrote:Science is a very broad endeavor, including the science of war, chemistry, many more.
Religion on the other hand is a particular kind of philosophy.
Could we have philosophy without religion?
Which is better?
Furthermore, we absolutely can have philosophy without religion. Think about all the secular / atheist philosophers and ask yourself why you'd even assert something like the above quoted text.
