there Is No God?

Hi everyone i am ashley, i am a senior in high school age 17 O:)
i just wanted to discuss the matter of religon
my mom has always gone to church and what-not
and tried getting me to go.
I agreed but did not like it...
i felt in my mind
how can you bealive some invisable man up in the sky, he gives you 10 things not to do, and if you do them you go to a fiery world? :confused2:
does that should like love to you?
personally me it did not
and then to think, i get a person on my game messaging me daily saying "God loves you' EVERY DAY! i usually curse at him and not speak to him for a bit. But we had a heated debate on religion and i said"Tell me how you bealive something that has no proven facts NON" and he replys "because i have faith" , In retaliation i said "what if you are wrong?, what if there is nothing and you wasted your whole life"? and he replyed "i would have done it out of love"
Mind you, he is about 13  , but how are you going to waste your entiere life on something that may not exist :-k . Then i relized, i am Atheists because i have had so many discustions on this that it is entierlly to confusing so Atheists is the way to go in my opinion. :D
But if anyone has anything to say otherwise i gues...enlighten me :-s
but also my mind may not be changed easly :P
my mind is not easly corrupted

First, I think there is a 12-step program for addiction to smileys...!

If you really want to consider the case for an intelligent faith, I would suggest you do some reading and not expect to find it on an Internet forum. There are here, certainly, calm and rational discussions among people deeply familiar with their respective faiths or lack of same. But there is also a great deal of simpleminded and/or mean-spirited nonsense of all kinds and from all directions. It would be rather like trying to get personal counseling at a bar fight. Books are more reliable sources of information.

For Christianity, you can't do better than C. S. Lewis. His books are intelligent, very readable, and intentionally non-denominational. His Mere Christianity is probably the best explanation of and argument for the basic beliefs that are common to all the Christian denominations that has ever been written.

Just for the record, I'm Jewish.

Welcome to the site. You'll certainly find a lot of food for thought on this board that will either convince you even more you're right to be an athiest, or make you start to consider other possibilities.
i felt in my mind
how can you bealive some invisable man up in the sky, he gives you 10 things not to do, and if you do them you go to a fiery world? :confused2:
Actually the only real thing you have to do is accept Christ as your savior. You could commit any other atrocity, but still be forgiven if you genuinely repent. According to the bible anyway. ;)
i get a person on my game messaging me daily saying "God loves you' EVERY DAY!
Sounds like a religious fanatic. The thing is when you say the same thing over and over again like that it soon loses its meaning and it becomes empty words. Saying it once with meaning would have more impact.

Reminds me of the old TV show Hill St Blues where Sergeant Esterhouse after each briefing says "Be careful out there." It becomes his catch phrase. But I'll give him credit at least he puts some sincerity into it, each time he says it. Sounds like your guy is probably insincere.
Then i relized, i am Atheists because i have had so many discustions on this that it is entierlly to confusing so Atheists is the way to go in my opinion. :D
I hope you find the answers you are looking for.
But if anyone has anything to say otherwise i gues...enlighten me :-s

I'll leave that up to the more evangelical folk on this site. There's plenty of people here who I'm sure will do their best to convert you to their way of thinking. ;)

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

There is a 'spell check' function.. and if you use firefox 2.0, it comes with a built in spell check function.

I don't think that once you dive in, religion will be scary.. confusing yes, scary no.
You will get a lot of many diverse opinions.. and I am sure that somebody might
give forth opinions that will resonate with you.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Grammar is a bit lacking too.

yup, I am aware of the spell check. I just refuse to use them.

Off topic, but I have to wonder why. You claim to be extremely sorry about misspelling yet you refuse to use spell check. Were you telling an untruth when you claimed to be extremely sorry? Are you deliberately trying to appear as poorly educated and a lousy communicator?
