Greetings to everyone,
My internet nom de plume is Rathpig, and I am a denizen of several internet discussion forums related to non-theistic topics. I am a life long atheist with interests in humanist philosophy and secular reality. Of the various religious topics that I have debated my interests trend toward the Abrahamic mythologies and especially Islam.
My education is in History with a focus on military technology and the U.S. formation period. My other educational interests are in philosophy and formal logic.
I look forward to reading what seems to be a very interesting forum and participating in topics where I may make positive contributions.
Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

Welcome Rathpig,
Your study of history, philosophy and logic can offer many contributions to the forum. However, as you are probably aware, logic is often trod upon in these discussions -- and history is often defined as "what the bible says" -- which can be disappointing.

Welcome. I am extremely interested in hearing your debates. Can't wait...

Re: Greetings,
Post #5I can't say I expected a higher quality of theist debate, but so far it has been rather balanced in my opinion. I normally do not frequent theist sites, so most of my experience with religious argumentation has been in venues such as Internet Infidels. The debate among non-theists there is some of the most well formed on the internet. Even my debate with Muslims has been rather well structured and without ill-referenced points or specious asides (for the most part).Zzyzx wrote: However, as you are probably aware, logic is often trod upon in these discussions -- and history is often defined as "what the bible says" -- which can be disappointing.
Having lurked many threads here and mixed it up a little, it seems this is a well rounded and balanced site. I may like it here. I do know all the major weaknesses in theist argumentation, so I know what to expect.
For the record I think phbBB leaves a multitude to be desired, but it is not my place to complain. Install all the anti-hack you can find - cause it's full of holes captain!
