My Name is Cody. I am a Christian, in stating that I qualify it with the declaration that I trust in Christ alone to save me from my sin.
My observations of the Natural World are based on a Biblical Worldview founded on the Word of God, for it is my sole authority for all matters relating to life and godliness. 2Pe 1:3.

Your site gives me insight into your way of thinking and for that, I thank you. I wish I had read it sooner. However, I hope to see some challenges from you and learn in the process.

Welcome to the forum Cody.
I will be one of your opponents. Perhaps we will discuss and debate ideas honorably and ethically.
The statement of beliefs on your website includes,
"There is one God, the God of the Bible . . . ".
"The Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God."
Which one of the seventy-five or so versions of the bible, which differ from one another, is the "inerrant, inspired word of god"? How does one identify the correct version?

I was not aware of other kinds of Christians.codybarr wrote:I am a Christian, in stating that I qualify it with the declaration that I trust in Christ alone to save me from my sin.
I will look forward to debating you on the topic of why you regard the Bible as God's word. the Bible = the Word of God ?codybarr wrote:My observations of the Natural World are based on a Biblical Worldview founded on the Word of God, for it is my sole authority for all matters relating to life and godliness. 2Pe 1:3.

Unfortunately in this World there are many other definitions for the word: "Christian." So I feel the necessity to define exactly who I have believed in.McCulloch wrote:I was not aware of other kinds of Christians.
I will look forward to answering any honest question you have about the Bible.McCulloch wrote:I will look forward to debating you on the topic of why you regard the Bible as God's word. the Bible = the Word of God ?
Also, do you believe the Bible is the Word of God?
If you don't, why do you post passages in your Signature?
My main goal at this forum is not to excite or astonish; I just want to make my case for the truth.McCulloch wrote:

Thank you for you question. It's a very legitimate one, and deserves a well-researched answer.Zzyzx wrote: Which one of the seventy-five or so versions of the bible, which differ from one another, is the "inerrant, inspired word of god"? How does one identify the correct version?
I will write a blog entry about this question and get back to you

Temporarily however I hope this will suffice:
There are many different versions of the Bible. These versions include translations into several hundred different languages. Most of these translations originate from the original language manuscripts, written in mostly Greek/Hebrew. It is the safest to say that the original Languages are the ones that were God Breathed. Translations are mans greatest effort to maintain the originals, while bringing them to another language. Unfortunately languages change over time, so new translations are created to adapt to this change. For instance, not many people in America speak the same way the King James Bible reads.
If i've not answered the question properly please restate and be more specific.

The problem I see with translations is that translation always deals with interpretation, and theological viewpoints will change the way things are translated.codybarr wrote:Thank you for you question. You will get such claims as 'Like a lion' becoming "pierced" and 'Young maiden' Becoming virgin.

No, I do not.codybarr wrote:Also, do you believe the Bible is the Word of God?
There are three reasons. Firstly, it is a reminder to other non-believers that there is some truth even in the Bible. Secondly, I use them because I believe that they are true and profound. The first, from 1 Thessalonians, is one of the most succinct descriptions of the scientific principle I have ever seen. The second, words attributed to Jesus by the writer of John's Gospel, is also profound. I believe that truth will set humans free from the myths and untruths of religion. Thirdly, I enjoy the irony that the application of the principles of these passages are what led me to reject Christianity.codybarr wrote:If you don't, why do you post passages in your Signature?
