Thought I'd introduce myself

Hi, I was a Christian up until just recently. Dedicated my life to Christ and believed faithfully for over 30 years. Believed I had a relationship with Christ and always involved myself in ministry.

I've been a member of a Christian site and an Ex-Christian site, but was attracted to this place because it seemed more neutral and had a better mixture of believers and unbelievers.

I normally post from work. The Network administrators allow me to visit the Christian site I belong to, but blocked the Ex-Christian site. Funny that isn't it? I guess they won't mind this one though.

Welcome to the forum. I have read several of your posts and enjoyed their openness and the quality of thought represented.

I would be interested in your comments on the "Is the flood literal" debate in the "Head to Head" forum. Though posts in that forum are restricted to the two who are debating, there is a parallel thread in "General Chat" for comments by others.

Stick around, enjoy the debates (and do a little work for the boss on the side).

Would you be willing to share your experience of why you decided to no longer be a Christian? You mentioned that it started when you debated with nonbelievers. Could you go more into that?

The flood thread looks interesting and I'll definitely look forward to having a good read of it as soon as I get the opportunity.

Otseng, it didn't really start with debate, the doubts had sprung up a lot earlier than that, but I think that was where I really made the decision that I no longer believed the teachings of Christianity.

Basically it started out mainly as cynicism, hearing the same things all the time, but never seeing the reality of it. eg Revival is on the way. This church is going to impact the city. God is going to do that, he's going to do this. Lots of false prophesies form respected Christians.

A big step to my deconversion was believing I was hearing from God and that I knew his voice and then one day discovering I didn't and had been wrong all along. It's a personal story, one that I may or may not share. We'll see how it goes.

No doubt I'll share a lot of things about lessons I've learned as topics come up.

Actually, I can understand what you have gone through.

Hi Desert_Rose. As Vladd has pointed out I'm not quite that old. 30+ years including childhood. I consider myself a Christian by default because from birth I was immersed and indoctronated into the culture. However it wasn't till I was about 7 that I made it official and became "born again".
