A Revisit on Politics and Religion
Post #1Politics is a doctrine base on reason ... whilst religion is a dogma based on traditional faith. When politics and religion part ways ... factor that will determine the authenticity of facts will be the current circumstances and discoveries.

Re: A Revisit on Politics and Religion
Post #2Well, it should be. Far too often, it's anything but reasonable or rational.Hugh wrote:Politics is a doctrine base on reason
Religion is superstition and wishful thinking, nothing more. No matter how 'traditional', that doesn't make it reasonable or rational in the least.... whilst religion is a dogma based on traditional faith.
Unfortunately, since politics is rarely rational and religion is never rational and they don't part ways as often as they should, that's why we have such a screwed up society. When politics and religion part ways ... factor that will determine the authenticity of facts will be the current circumstances and discoveries.

Politics is a doctrine based on power. Religion is a dogma based on power.

Post #4I disagree with the idea that all religion is "superstitution," "not reasonable," "not rational."Cephus wrote:Religion is superstition and wishful thinking, nothing more. No matter how 'traditional', that doesn't make it reasonable or rational in the least.
Beliefs are reasonable and rational if they can be justified based on the knowledge that you possess. Whether or not they are true or provable doesn't matter. It's how well you've used your knowledge to come to conclusions and make decisions. It's got nothing to do with science. Science is based on reason and rationality but that doesn't mean everything has to be based on science.
Religion can be reasonable and rational on that basis.
Superstitution is an irrational belief. It is usually when we submit and surrender ourselves to blind logic. Yes, superstition and dogma is actually driven by logic, rather than being illogical. It is the logic that makes it look so....stupid. The people who believe in it can't shake themselves out of the logic of it.
What makes superstition....superstitution is our confinement to that blind logic which cannot change or adapt to circumstances. It is superstitution when we allow ourselves to be manipulated by that logic, to the extent that when that "logic" is no longer applicable to our present situation, we stubbornly continue to adhere to it!!!
When you try to reason with superstitution, you're actually trying to find loopholes in that logic. You're trying to help that person escape that logic.
Both politics and religion can have dogmas and doctrines.twobitsmedia wrote:Politics is a doctrine based on power. Religion is a dogma based on power.
Not all religion is driven by power, nor does it always have doctrines and dogma.
The dogmas and doctrines are more like signposts that highlight what's important. They usually have a name.
Religion is dogmatic if it relies on those "signpost-concepts" and the names associated with them. But if we make it so that the concepts in a religion don't have to have a name then it ceases to be dogmatic.
It's more true if you, as an individual, can choose what's important for yourself. Most of us, when starting with a religion, start off reading the signs. Later on, when we know the roads off by heart we don't need the signs anymore. So if someone overwrites one of the signs, it won't matter because we won't be manipulated by the signs.
