You can't read scripture without encountering the world of dreams.

Please use this thread to discuss your dreams, or any mentioned in scripture. Amazing all. If you would like help understanding the spiritual reality of dreams, just ask.

Framing complete, I was on the jobsite and to my great surprise because I had not arranged for this, my buddy Mark showed up with a truckload of drywall. I helped him offload the truck bed and get the long sheets of wallboard distributed to the various rooms. Then I went and spoke to my Father, who told me that he had scheduled Mark to come, which was so nice because I hadn't paid for this material and since Mark was a long time friend and associate of his, he had struck some sort of really good deal-- plus, this was moving the project along at lightning speed.

But then, when I returned to the job, Mark had already hung most of the drywall. He was putting up sheets, nailing and screwing as he went and I was shocked at the progress. It was so amazing, followed by great anguish as I realized that the plumbing and electrical work hadn't been done yet! It would all have to come down. I hadn't even had the framing inspection passed yet. I went back to my Father and he said not to worry, he'd have Mark remove it all and do it again. The drywall cost was only $3000 and the labor was free.

If I told you a story, or read a poem, or put those verses to song-- would you know where it came from? Could you tell the difference between the message of the story and a dream? And how many stories begin with a dream? Scripture is full of examples from Daniel to the birth of Jesus-- we'd have none of the record without including the recording of dreams and there are hundreds more examples, Genesis to the Revelation of Jesus to John on Patmos.

It's a mistake to think a dream is only a dream

A man awoke as from a dream and found himself laying upon a beach, coughing and sputtering water. It was as if his first breath upon waking and having no memory of anything before he stood up upon his feet and walked away from the shore toward a green landscape of trees and vegetation. He wandered among the tall trees and wondered where it was he had found himself. Eventually he found a path, and that path led him into a lush garden, an open meadow lit by the sun, while partly shaded by the trees. A delightful brook babbled, the birds sang, there was fruit growing on the trees- an orchard, a paradise.

He rested from his journey, laid himself down with a smooth stone under his neck for a pillow and there, he slept.

How long he slept and how many days and nights he stayed there in the orchard is uncountable. His days filled with various adventures- he explored the garden, the forests and streams that became rivers, and he dined on the fruit of the trees, tending to them from time to time, pruning off branches that bore no fruit. His nights he spent in wonder, gazing at a myriad of stars above.

Was it all a dream? Which was the dream, something that happened while he was sleeping, or was the whole adventure as told, the dream?

One morning he awoke there once more along the shore, coughing and sputtering as if it were his first breath.

He climbed naked up the shore through the mud, covering himself with earth. He looked back into the water- and seeing his face reflected, now covered in earth this way, said—“I know not this person.”

He looked out into the vastness of the waters and turned to see a mountain rising high above him, -and with the water behind him, he began to climb.
After a time, a great wind blew from the North and swept him down from the mountain and far out to sea.
Many more days passed, and once again a man crawled from the great ocean coughing and spitting water. He climbed naked up the shore again, through the mud- covering himself with it in the process. He looked back into the water and again, he didn’t recognize himself in the image he saw, covered in earth as it was. “I know not this person.”

Behind him, a mountain- so he turned and began to climb. Along the way as he climbed he saw what looked like tracks- indications of someone’s passing, but he met no one as he climbed.
The sun was hot, and after a short time the mud that he was covered with began to dry and crack- and from his stiffened joints he stumbled and fell from the cliff into the waters below.
As before, a man crawled from the great ocean coughing and spitting water. He climbed naked up the shore through the mud covering himself with the earth. He looked down at the water and said- “I know not this person.”

He looked out into the vastness of the waters and turned to see a mountain rising high above him, -and with the water behind him, and he began to climb.
Along the way as he climbed he looked and saw what really seemed to be the indications of someone’s passing, but still he met no one as he climbed.
The sun grew hot. The mud began to dry and cake and crack and he struggled against the weight of it, but then it began to rain. The rain was fierce and the mountain often gave way, sliding and tumbling beneath his feet with each step, but the man climbed on and as he did the rain washed the earth from his face and body. He looked down into a small puddle of standing water and seeing his reflection free of all that earth he said-- “I know not this person.”

He climbed onward and upward and seeing signs along the way, he realized that it was he that had passed this way many times before.

The same man awoke one morning and she was standing there...

No guru. No method. No teacher. Just you and I and nature and the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost in the garden.

A story about a story as told in a dream.

A story as told by a man who heard a story told in dream.

Have you ever looked at the creation story as told by Moses in Genesis this way? How else did it come about? He wasn't there to witness-- was it taught to him by others? Passed down over centuries or millennia? In fact all of the stories of those who came before him would have had to have been taught to him, or recorded elsewhere-- or, he dreamed it up. All of those intricate narratives, all of those interesting anecdotes-- imagined or taught.

The fact is, without being told so and without having witnessed something ourselves, we have no way of differentiating between dreaming and reality. But the dreamer, the dreamer enters the world where the story begins and in spirit they do become a witness, sometimes a participant, sometimes a character in the story as told. The rabbit hole gets deep fast.

I was lifted up.

Have you ever experienced an ascending? It's freedom from the earth. Soaring over. Like light carrying you.

Have you?

I was in my truck and not paying close attention as I wheeled down a steep ramp and through the entrance of an underground car park. It's hard to see over the hood of my lifted truck to the immediate front of it, and I came in a little too aggressively and swung my nose a little too widely and in so doing I clipped one of those steel bollards protecting the sides of the gate. I pulled into a spot and got out to examine the damage to my vehicle which was much more extensive than I expected it to be. I recognized right away that it was no longer drivable and would have to be towed to a body shop. I left it behind and began to walk the downtown streets and as I did I saw the leading edge of a raging flashflood coming right down the road toward me, laden with all kinds of debris including mud, trees and houses. I quickly crossed over to the other side of the street and began quickly packing a few things in preparation for an immediate departure to Austin.
