A metaphor is a trope by which a word is diverted from its proper and original meaning to another, for the sake of comparison, or because there is some analogy between the visible likeness, or image, and/or to give an imaginative comparison to the thing indicated.
Of all the means in the art of speaking and writing, the metaphor is that which is most frequently used in Scripture. It’s used to enrich the mind with two ideas at the same time. They are the truth and the similitude.
Christ is said to be the "sun of righteousness." As the natural sun supplies, renews, and restores life to nature, Christ shines with the new light of life and immortality to those who sat in darkness and the shadow of death.
Christians are to receive Christ under this glorious character of Light.
Isaiah 60:1, "Arise, shine, for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee,"
Jesus said of Himself, "I am the Light of the world."
Christians are called "The children of the light." In the absence of Christ, His place is taken by the light of Scriptures.
Psalms 119:125, "A lamp unto our feet," and a light unto our paths. The words of prophecy are as a light shining in a dark place; and as we grow in the word, it is by the light of a lamp.
The moon is used as an emblem of the church, which receives its light from Christ, just as the moon receives its light from the sun. Making new the light of the moon each night signifies the renewing of the light of the body of believers, the church of Christ.
