Can Republicans explain what the *^%$ is going on in the GOP?
Let's face it, there are some real wackos in that party making a lot of headlines, and they seem to be fixated on Trans and Gay people. Is this what the Party of Lincoln has become? Trump, Boebert, Greene, Santos, Lake... I mean, I'll be here forever mentioning all the wierdness in the GOP.
Can you help me make sense of it?

Post #11I should make one correction to my last post. Democrat leaders don't issue "marching orders"; they issue sitting orders. Anyone on the Left who criticizes their complacency is branded a malcontent to make sure that "nothing will change".

Trumpism didn't come out of any third party. Trump threatened to start a third party and GOP leaders caved to him because they were afraid of abandonment by their constituents. The problem is that we saw what happens when a Third Party gains popularity in the USA: Trumpism.
The leaders of the D-party don't have to fear the same happening to them because Democrats are eiither good little tin solldiers who follow the marching orders of their party leaders without question or are content to sit at microphones and keyboards and complain uselessly without doing anything to change their party.

(1) Vote for Biden
(2) Vote for Trump who wants to do away with our Constitution, do away with term limits & in Trumps own words, be a Dictator.
Trump was not kidding; Trump means what he says.
Is this who you want to vote for---?

You illustrate exactly why there should be more than two choices.

Post #16These things go one of two ways. Either they become such a self-parodying clownshow of themselves that even most of their supporters become too embarrassed to vote for them, or they manage to subvert the courts and the press and move on to a dictatorship where no one dares to point out that the clown is wearing big floppy shoes.Miles wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:05 pmSo you think the Democratic party should handhold the GOP so it can function without falling on its face. I agree it would no doubt help, but don't sit up nights waiting for it to happen. The party has proven how incredibly dysfunctional it is, and will undoubtedly crash under the weight of its incompetence and self-serving interests.Athetotheist wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 6:26 pmThe GOP is indeed a bastion of insanity these days, but I would caution against focusing exclusively on it. The Republican party wouldn't be able to do nearly as much as it's been getting away with without the bourgeois neoliberalism of the Democrat party letting it do so.boatsnguitars wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 8:34 am Can Republicans explain what the *^%$ is going on in the GOP?

Besides, I'm rather enjoying watching it self-destruct.![]()

There is, of course, a third path where the party faithful realize that it can't end well, and simply remove the clowns and their enablers. That doesn't seem to happen often, but we can hope.

Trump is the most corrupt president in U.S. history, by far. He is also a racist and a bigot. His overt racism is clearly revealed in his own public statements, branding poor Latino immigrants who Jesus dearly loves as "animals" and claiming "they are poisoning our blood." This is what Hitler said about Jews and Gypsies and is racist as it gets.
Evangelicals who support this racist liar are like the Pharisees of old, who Jesus roundly and soundly condemned in public, right in their face and even when eating at one of their homes. The Bible clearly supports welcoming immigrants and doing them no harm and says that God hates "a lying tongue."
Jesus says, "I was a stranger and you did not take me in", regarding nations that do not fear God, Matthew 25.

The term “woke” was originally coined by progressive Black Americans and was used in racial justice movements in the early to mid-1900s, including its use in a historical recording of the protest song, “Scottsboro Boys” by Lead Belly. In that recording, it was used as a term about staying aware of the potential for racist violence as a Black person in America.
Being “woke” isn’t a bad thing, it’s a very good thing. Jesus is the most “woke” person in history, fully aware of the religious and social injustice around him. Jesus treated the poor and common people, Samaritans (the “illegals” of his day), lepers, short people, lame people and all manner of disabled people as being of equal value to the rich and powerful.
Republicans have stolen the term “woke” and twisted it into a political symbol of White Supremacy, injustice and hate. They are currently trying to eliminate the teaching of Black history and replace true history with a White-washed history that ignores the American sins of slavery, unjust wars and the slaughter of Native populations.
To be “anti-woke” is to be against Jesus and the prophets, that is, to be against God Almighty, who has a heart for the downtrodden, enslaved and oppressed. Like Jesus says, he came “to proclaim good news to the poor”, to set the captives free and “to set at liberty, those who are oppressed.”
To be “anti-woke” is to be Anti-Christ, against Jesus and the prophets.
Evangelicals who support Trump's racist agenda are hypocrites.

You may be a little confused. The Bible isn't a religious collection of works, it is about what is true and what is not true. The only "God" in human history who claims to be "I AM", eternal, is found only in the Bible and not anywhere else among the plethora of ancient gods. Eternal Creator rationally explains universal existence--nothing else known to history or today rationally does.
According to the Bible, the "heaven of heavens" cannot contain God and in God we "live and move and have our being." This is by far the only concept of God that matches the modern 21st universal reality.

Although the biblical narratives depict Yahweh as the sole creator god, lord of the universe, and god of the Israelites especially, initially he seems to have been Canaanite in origin and subordinate to the supreme god El. Canaanite inscriptions mention a lesser god Yahweh and even the biblical Book of Deuteronomy stipulates that “the Most High, El, gave to the nations their inheritance” and that “Yahweh's portion is his people, Jacob and his allotted heritage” (32:8-9). A passage like this reflects the early beliefs of the Canaanites and Israelites in polytheism or, more accurately, henotheism (the belief in many gods with a focus on a single supreme deity). The claim that Israel always only acknowledged one god is a later belief cast back on the early days of Israel's development in Canaan.
.....
The character and power of Yahweh were codified following the Babylonian Captivity of the 6th century BCE and the Hebrew scriptures were canonized during the Second Temple Period (c. 515 BCE-70 CE) to include the concept of a messiah whom Yahweh would send to the Jewish people to lead and redeem them. Yahweh as the all-powerful creator, preserver, and redeemer of the universe was then later developed by the early Christians as their god who had sent his son Jesus as the promised messiah and Islam interpreted this same deity as Allah in their belief system.
.....
The Canaanites, like all ancient civilizations, worshipped many gods but chief among them was the sky-god El. In this passage from Deuteronomy, El gives each of the gods authority over a segment of the people of earth and Yahweh is assigned to the Israelites who, in time, will make him their supreme and only deity; but it is clear he existed beforehand as a lesser Canaanite god.

How much weight does that statement carry when the very article you link to says that there are "misleading or otherwise poorly translated words and phrases in the Bible"?The only "God" in human history who claims to be "I AM", eternal, is found only in the Bible and not anywhere else among the plethora of ancient gods.
