Does any mortal man have the power to atone for the sins of all mankind?
Was Christ a mere mortal being or was he a being with a divine nature?
Can anyone show from the scriptures the truth or error of the above 2 questions?

Post #2Here is the license to forgive for every disciple of Jesus ("Christian"):Revelations won wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 9:58 am Does any mortal man have the power to atone for the sins of all mankind?
If you forgive anyone’s sins, they have been forgiven them. If you retain anyone’s sins, they have been retained.”
John 20:23
Does that make disciples of Jesus gods?

Post #3Your question, “Does any mortal man have the power to atone for the sins of all mankind?” The answer is no for many reasons. The Father in heaven, is the offended party. And his beloved Son Jesus is the only one who could satisfy the Father’s wrath. Jesus was not only sent, but he came of his own free will to suffer and die for our sins so we could live.Revelations won wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 9:58 am Does any mortal man have the power to atone for the sins of all mankind?

Among the Jews, expiation was made by sacrifices, or by washings and purification.
Leviticus 9:7, “And Moses said unto Aaron, go unto the altar, and offer the sin offering thy burnt offering and make an atonement for yourself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them: as the LORD commanded.”
In Christian theology, Jesus Christ is seen as the only one who atones for the sins of mankind through his sacrifice and death. He died a Lamb without spot or blemish.
To atone is to make satisfaction for an offense. All guilt is done away, and the obligation of the offended person (the Father) to punish the crime is canceled or satisfied. The expiation of our sins was made by the obedience and personal suffering of Jesus Christ.
Because no mortal man could keep the law, the LORD had to send his beloved Son to first fulfill the law and then to atone for the sins of mankind by suffering and dying for our sins.
But there are other pieces to the puzzle that had to be filled in. A new covenant was needed, so the Son of God was sent as a messenger and the mediator of this new covenant.
Hebrews 8:6, “he (Jesus) is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”
Also, a new order of priest to present the sacrifice to the offended party had to be established, one after the order of Melchizedek. Only the Son of God could fulfill this.
Romans 5:9, "Being justified by His (Jesus) blood we shall be saved from wrath, through Him."
So, we are saved from the wrath of the Father through Christ because of his suffering and death. And because of his new covenant sealed with his blood, and his priesthood after the order of Melchizedek.
Jude 24, "Now unto Him (Jesus) that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His (the Father's) glory with exceeding joy."
So, Jesus fulfilled the law, and he also satisfied the Father’s indignation.
Your second question, “Was Christ a mere mortal being or was he a being with a divine nature?”
Of course he’s divine, he is the only begotten Son of God. He is God with us, God manifest in the flesh, He is the Creator of all things; our everlasting Father, the mighty God, the Almighty of Revelation 1:8, and 11:17.
