cross?
Post #3What you believe that? People just like me and you,HUMANS, wrote a story about some guy who says he is gonna save us and yet he has yet to do so but he can't accomplish that goal cause he is dead. If he was so special he would be here saving all of us good people. If someone wrote a story about a guy like jesus and tried to start a religion people would pay no attention and think you were crazy. Timez change and so do beliefs, just like when jesus changed everyone around him, not saying his words were wrong but how do you know the truth, you weren't there.
Re: cross?
Post #4Christians don't worship the cross. It is just a symbol.against tha grain wrote:why do christians worship a symbol such as the cross? was the cross a roman torture device?, if so why symbolize a device that was used to torture and kill their savior?

Post #5Think about it this way. Within that time people probably spent most of their lives kicking dirt and rarely ever getting to experience something worthwhile. They needed a mental arousal without wrongful intent.against tha grain wrote:What you believe that? If someone dies, and the world around him is effected, that's a big alteration, and a much bigger impact.
Right now standards are much higher then they've probably ever been. People would probably pay less attention to a revolutionary because of stereotypical motives. It's hard enough trying to change minds. NO ONE is going to change their religious, much less social mindset on a whim. In the days of christ there were kings and authorities who were forcing beliefs on others, wouldn't you think people would believe in something thats more accepting and humble?
Never was there someone with so much humility before jc, at least he's the most recognized for what he acomplished. Be it real or not, it was a defining moment.
Saying someone wasn't there, or the bible is an archaic form of literature, that's just an easy atheist cop out. There was constant time, effort and intel. going into that book, it wasn't meant to be in vain. How do you not know it happened?
Truth, is always second fiddle to faith in most religions.
That's the reality of the situation. Now whether you want to count circumstantial evidence or repeat methods and ideas, that's up to you. But if someone believes in something worth dying for, they deserve a lot of credit.
Regardless of it's a jesus-fish on the back of a geo or a cross, it conveys belief and identifies faith.

The fish is the original christian symbol. It had been used for thousands of years in association with a pagan goddess. Fish were also a very important food in Galilee. The cross is used because during a battle, emperor Constantine apparently saw a cross of light in the sky, which prompted him to start using the symbol.
