hi all,
I'm a newcomer to DC&R. I'm a regular at a few other forums, but until recently have been reluctant at discussing religion online. I recently read "The God Delusion" and found it to be one of the worst books I've ever read in my life. I do happen to be a Christian. and this book has brought my faith alive. articulating why I believe, to myself, as well as articulating why Dawkins is wrong, has been a most useful exercise. I look forward to participating in The God Delusion subforum!
if The God Delusion is the best argument against faith anyone has to offer, then rest assured, religion is here to stay.
ok, enough, of that ... and sorry if it smells like bait. it was just an explanation of how I got to be here.
I'm a musician and do research for a job. I also have a blog.
Look forward to participating here...

I'll take the bait by saying that an excellent argument against faith is presented in the books mentioned in my signature.
A great number of counter-religious points are made in these threads -- including many that simply ask that religious claims be verified by impartial, independent evidence. So far that has not been provided.
Instead, what is provided are excuses, explanations, interpretations, hearsay, rumor and quotations from a source that is questionable (a committee effort, unidentified authors, written long after the events claimed, translated, transcribed, modified, revised, rewritten -- and still "the inerrant word of god" to many).

Post #7Welcome. I hope to see you in TGD debate. Though I am learning much, I think you may as well, so long as your mind is open.niftydrifty wrote:hi all,

I doubt TGD is the best evidence. From what I am learning, thus far, it isn't all to compelling from applicational tool. But from an investigational, it has its merits. But I will reserve my ultimate decision one the debate is over.
