Getting Married
Post #1Is getting married a Christian thing to do or just something required of the State?

Re: Getting Married
Post #11Gotta say, that is a nice picture of two very nice looking people. I assume you're the one with the hat.

Re: Getting Married
Post #13So I started this thread because at the time I was interested in any feedback I might have gotten as I was trying to sort out some stuff...
That stuff had to do with legalities ... I am not a big fan of much of the law (as it pertains re Systems of Disparity) so after my *bride to be and I had visited the celebrant I came away not liking the deal I was hearing...and discussed this with the *B2B...
So I was looking for ways around it...
This is the happy couple providing the music at their reception....

Re: Getting Married
Post #14Once it was established that the only actual thing required of the bride and groom were that they agree that they enter the marriage of their own volition and sign a paper saying so.
This was good because we also wanted to exchange rings but I was adamant that the main ceremony was not about the law but about the 17 years of Friendship which we had already lived together, and so we read a little page of words we each wrote to express that to one another in front of our friends celebrating with us, exchanged rings and kissed and then the celebrant simply introduced the mundane [law side of things] and pronounced us married as per the law.
In relation to the law, since we have been together as a couple for 17 years, the law treats us as married anyway, and so effectively all we were doing in relation to that was being able to now legally refer to each other as husband/wife/Mr and Mrs. No biggy.
The main focus of the ceremony remained on our overall relationship of 17 years, and therein was the actual celebration and the law was usurped from being at the head of the table...to the more suitable role of participant in the overall event.
