Bible - cruelty and violence
Post #1Please read this list of cruelty in the Bible. Is the Bible true? If it is true then why is God so cruel and violent? Doesn't God's cruelty make God evil and unworthy of praise and worship?

Post #111There are of course passages even in the gospels that present a very different view of the NT god. Once you get to Revelation, the OT god seems like a sweetheart.Menotu wrote:
To be fair, the Old Testament god (angry, vengeful, quick to kill and ask for killing) seems to be a lot different than the New Testament god (loving, caring, compassionate, forgiving).

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

Again, God does goodness from the home of Heaven, the Devil does evil from the home of Hell, final!
It's not possible to say God is both evil and good because it goes against the Bible. Nowhere does it say that God has created the Devil or Hell.
The story of the Bible is complex and combines both history writing and poetry way ahead of Dr. Ranke of the 19th century, the father of modern history writing.

That is, much off the cuff accusations against God. Moral blindness in people means accounts of nothing right or wrong will occur.

I'm cool!

Post #113There seems to be 2 distinct Gods (unless the same God form the Old Testament started taking some good pills between the OT and NT).Compassionist wrote: Please read this list of cruelty in the Bible. The OT god definitely is a jerk and worthy of nothing but contempt
The NT god seems a lot more caring and devolved mentally. But if, as some claim, the NT god says 'worship me or go to Hell forever' that makes it unreasonable and not worthy or worship.
It makes me wonder, is anything worthy of worship?
