Dying man's wish

22-year-old Nick Wallis, who has muscular dystrophy, had hoped to experience sex before he died. After telling staff at the Douglas House hospice in Oxford of his wish, they decided to help him, reported London's Daily Telegraph.
[...]
"I found an advert from a sex worker in a magazine for the disabled," Wallis said. "The initial contact was by email and then by phone."
It was arranged for the prostitute to visit Wallis' home while his parents went out.

"It was a decision two years in the making and I discussed it with my carers and my parents. Telling my mother and father was the hardest part, but in the end they gave me their support," Wallis told the Telegraph.

The hospice staff consulted a solicitor, clergy, and health care professionals before agreeing to assist Wallis.
[...]
"It is not our job to make moral decisions for our guests. We came to the conclusion that it was our duty of care to support Nick emotionally and to help ensure his physical safety."

Question for debate, is this morally and ethically right? Why or why not?

Where do you find this stuff? I see nothing immoral about this. Since nowhere in the bible does it overtly state that remarital sex is wrong, it only vaguely applies virginity to females upon the marriage bed, not only would the man be exempt, but I see no religious laws he broke.

YOU may not think any wrong has been committed but according to the Word of God HE certainly does - and that is what counts.
However if Wallis was not a religious person we should not judge him. The Bible says not to judge those outside. But if I am not mistaken some religious persons were involved and THEY will bear responsibility for their assistance in a biblically denounced act.Whoremongers and fornicators will not enter the Kingdom of God (unless repented of).

Believe it or not on a forum for artistic rubber stampers.

Beta seems to disagree.

Confused cannot find the passages in the Bible which condemn premarital sex for a male. Could you help her out?

Yes, the kind of thinking of the Taliban says that the religious should impose their mores on the non-religious. This man could not get the help he needed to achieve his life goal without the assistance of his caregivers, who happened to be Catholic nuns. If his goal was to have tasted bacon and his caregivers were Jewish, would it have been a sin for them to provide it for him?

Excuse me Mr. McCulloch, why do you say I disagree ?
I simply quoted from the Bible and said it is what God says that matters not our own opinions. And didn't I also say that those on the outside (non-religious) should not be judged ? Those who profess to be christians are supposed to live by the Word of God and are therefore responsible for their actions - it being a matter between them and God.
If Confused wants to know the scriptures about (sexual) sins why does she not read the Bible ?

Unless I am very stupid, it looks to me as if Beta and Confused have a disagreement as to what the Bible says about premarital sex. Neither side quotes any of the sacred texts to support their assertions. Beta, perhaps you could provide a reference to the place in the Bible where premarital sex is overtly stated to be a sin and help Confused out of her apparent misunderstanding.

Wow that story makes me sad. Personally, I'm pretty libertarian, so if there's no victim, then there's no crime. Err, I'm not considering British law though because I don't know what it is.

My apologies, I don't state any sacred text to support the assertion that premarital sex is wrong because I can't find any that says it is. I believe we had a thread on this, I think Micatala started it. I don't recall anyone finding a thread that says that a man having sex before marriage was wrong. Now the are some implicit scriptures that say a woman should be, but only very vaguely implied. For example, if a man sleeps with a woman before they are married and the father of the woman disapproves of the match, the man only has to pay a virgin price. And if a man accuses a woman of not being a virgin and proves it to be true, she is to be stoned to death (though this could be interpreted as punishment for claiming to be a virgin and then being proven not to be, so the punishment is for deception as opposed to not being a virgin). Yet I can think of no passage in which the man is forbidden to have premarital sex and I can find no passage that specifically says a woman must be a virgin at the time of marriage.

In Britian, 'sex workers' are legal, although brothels are illegal. I looked it up when I saw this article. I was surprised to see how much of the Western countries have legal prostititution.

What a weak response.

If YOU think the WORD OF GOD says it is wrong, was it so much of a stretch for McCulloch to think that YOU PERSONALLY would agree with the "WORD OF GOD" ?

Especially if the WORD OF GOD is what counts.

Coat your own view with as much biblical sugar as you can, but it is still your opinion.
