Whatever we can find in the Scriptures has been placed there for a good reason, even metals. For example,
1. Gold speaks of Holiness and Godliness:
2. Silver speaks of redemption:
3. Bronze speaks of judgment.
Can any evidence of this be found in the Scriptures? Let’s check it out. We will find evidence in the blueprints for the Tabernacle of Moses. There was not a single bronze item inside the Tabernacle, yet, outside the Tabernacle was a bronze altar, a bronze water dish, etc.
Inside, everything was made of Gold. Inside the Holy of Holies in Solomon’s Temple, there was the Ark of the Covenant, the Mercy seat, and the 15-foot Cherubim each covered with gold as were their 8-foot wings. Gold speaks of God’s divinity and purity.
Now, the altar on which the sacrifices were burnt was made of bronze, bronze is a metal of Judgement. The Bronze altar is where the sacrifice met the heat of the fire (judgment) and therefore consumed.
Another picture from the Bible is the Philistine giant Goliath, whose height was 6 cubits. He had six pieces of armor; his spear's head weighed 600 shekels of iron. Let's look at the armor and weapon Goliath had when he fought against David.
His helmet was of bronze: His mentality was of judgment. His breastplate of Bronze: he had a heart of judgment, and a heart of judgment cannot love. His greaves (shin-piece of armor) were made of bronze: And so, standing in judgment.
Goliath’s coat was made of bronze mail (a coat covered with plates of bronze metal). So, he was surrounded by judgment. Is there any wonder Goliath was so pathetic? Anyone constantly under judgment will sooner or later pick up a gun and go Terminator on his surroundings? Even his spear shaft was made of bronze, a weapon of judgment.
Many churches today still base their sermons on the 10 commandments and all 613 clauses, but the temple of God had its base made of silver.
The walls of the Temple were made of wood boards, and at the bottom of the boards, there were tenons (projections for joining) at the bottom, making the boards fit perfectly into the silver bases. They were made to stand upright (Exodus 26:15-18; 36:21-22)
Now, see the beauty of it? The way for humanity is to stand upright in God's presence and be placed in his redeeming power, silver.
There were also five bars for each side of the Tabernacle (Exodus 26:26,27; 36:31,32). The middle bar of the five was to pass through the center of the boards from one end to the other (Exodus 26:28; 36:33). All the bars and rings were overlaid with gold (Exodus 26:29; 36:34).
The number 5 speaks of Grace. The middle bar passes through the board, and the verse states that every inch of the wood is covered with gold. To summarize,
Christians are the wood, as believers, we are covered with Holiness (Gold) inside and outside, made to stand in redemption (silver), and as a result, not a single bit of our sin (wood) can be seen in God's presence.
