The Holy Spirit's fingerprints can be found from Genesis to Revelation. He is the third Person of the Triune Godhead. His power and influence are made clear throughout the Bible. He dwells with us, teaches and brings to remembrance; bears witness convinces of sin, guides, speaks, declares, inspires speaking through the Scriptures, sends out workers, forbids specific actions, intercedes,
He has had and continues to have intercourse with many. He dwells in the disciples as a Comforter, Counselor, and Advocate (teacher) to recall the things Jesus taught, testify of Jesus, and reprove the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
He guides the disciples of Christ into all truths; will not speak of Himself, but only that which He hears from above, reveals events to come, and glorifies the Lord by showing the things of Christ.

THE ANWSER : No, the definite article "the" is not usually used with proper names of individuals. For example, you would not say "the William Shakespeare" or "the Paris".

Re: The Holy Spirit, names and titles
Post #3You say not usually, so there are times when it may be. Holy Spirit is not a proper name, it's the title he holds. Donald Trump is (THE PRESIDENT, HE IS THE COMMANDER AND CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES). I would never say "The Donald Trump, but I would say "The President," and everyone would know who I am speaking of. Here's why we do not know his name. The Holy Sprit's person is not the focus of the gospel, Jesus Christ is to be focused on. There is no need to know the Holy Spirit's heavenly name, all we need to know is why was he sent, and for what reason he was sent.JehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 1:11 pm I asked google : In English do we use definite articles with proper names of individuals?

Now, someone might object, saying that "the Hague" can't be the proper name of the third city, since "the" is not usually used with proper names, and we wouldn't refer to the other two cities as "THE Amsterdam" or "THE Rotterdam."
But they would be wrong. The Hague is, in fact, the proper name of that city. And, even if proper names don't usually take the definite article, some do. Needless to say, that fact doesn't commit us to adding "the" in front of all other names that don't take the definite article.

Re: The Holy Spirit, names and titles
Post #7Those are not names. They are titles. And your #38 is right on the money. You could name just as many titles for God Himself, but that's just it---they would be titles, not names. God's personal name is "Jehovah." He doesn't have any other name. But as I said, He has multiple titles, just as the Holy Spirit has (which is not a Person, but a thing).placebofactor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 12:30 pm The Holy Spirit's fingerprints can be found from Genesis to Revelation. Post #9You'd be wrong, then. From the International Astronomical Union:onewithhim wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 12:36 pm
I don't think that the moon and the sun are proper names.
As I noted above, we also sometimes see the definite article used in the proper names of cities, like the Hague. Other examples would include Los Angeles, Las Vegas, El Salvador, and La Rochelle. In those cases, the definite article in Spanish or French forms part of the proper name of each city or country.IAU wrote:
The IAU has been the arbiter of planetary and satellite nomenclature since its inception in 1919, and IAU recommendations rest on well-established scientific facts and have a broad consensus in the astronomical community . . .
The designation of our Moon is, therefore, the Moon, with a capital M and used as a name (a proper noun).
As we can see, then, there is nothing inherent about "the" appearing in a name that somehow makes it not a proper name.

Post #10Not all languages use the definite article, nor do they capitalize the initials in the same cases.
In Spanish, for example, languages are not capitalized and in Biblical Greek, some personal names use the definite article.
