The Father's gift to his Son

Let’s take a moment and reflect back on John 6:36. Jesus had complained to a crowd of Jewish people who had been following him, saying to them, “You also have seen me, and believe not.” The people had heard his teaching, seen his miracles, witnessed his works, yet believed not.

When Jesus' work was finished, what exactly was it the Father was going to give to His Son? Verse 37 opens with the following. Jesus said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me;”

This comprehensive and sublime passage had been expressed with a particular artistic precision. The opening statement consists of two parts, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me;” He is saying to the people, “Though you have no faith in me, my mission, my business here on earth will in no way be defeated.” So, what exactly is it the Father gave him?

What the Father gave to His Son is expressed in the singular number and neuter gender, literally, “everything.” While those who come to the Lord are put in the masculine gender and singular number “everyone.” Everything is a gift from the Father to his beloved Son as a unity, a oneness which the Son will have developed individual by individual in the execution of His trust.

John 17:2, “As thou (the Father) has given him (Jesus) power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.”

So, it should be obvious that the Father’s pledge concerning his gift to His Son would be fulfilled and not be made a mockery of.

Your thoughts.
