Holy Spirit power. What’s your take on the following verse? Ephesians 3:20-21, "Unto him that are able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church of Christ Jesus." What is that power? It’s the Holy Spirit's power.
My guess, is "Seven out of every ten who claim to be Christians are without the power of the Holy Spirit?"
Ruffly, two billion people claim to be Christians, covering hundreds of denominations, Catholics being the largest, a billion and a half of them. Catholics are told the Pope, also called the Vicar of Christ and his council are infallible in the doctrines that come forth from their councils. The Vicar of Christ also claims to be in charge until Jesus returns, brushing the Holy Spirit off to the side. Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and others claim the Holy Spirit is not a He, but an it.
Others claim Jesus is not the God of the Old Testament, the Creator of heaven and Earth. And on and on it goes.
Following is one example of a person having the Holy Spirit in them, it’s the story of David and Goliath. Goliath was physically strong, a true giant; and I would suppose, fearful to look at. He overcame his enemies with intimidation and physical strength.
On the other hand, David was small, young, yet un-intimidating, because he carried the sword of the Spirit. This made David greater in every way, he easily overcame Goliath, struck fear into Israel's enemies, and filled his people with amazement. From a shepherd to king with a slingshot and one stone; that's "Holy Spirit Power."
Many have allowed our society, our culture, or even their denomination to restrict them from receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. Salvation comes from God alone, and not from men. We should not be like Ponce de Leon who spent his life looking for the mystical "Fountain of Youth." All he had to do was open up the pages of his Bible.
Holy Spirit power, what is it?

Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.
Acts 2:1-4
They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Behold, aren't all these who speak Galileans? How do we hear, everyone in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elam-ites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyre-ne, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!" They were all amazed, and were perplexed, say-ing one to another, "What does this mean?" Others, mocking, said, "They are filled with new wine."
Acts 2:7-13
Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are various kinds of service, and the same Lord. There are various kinds of workings, but the same God, who works all things in all. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all. For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; to another faith, by the same Spirit; and to an-other gifts of healings, by the same Spirit; and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages. But the one and the same Spirit works all of these, distributing to each one separately as he desires. For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit.
1 Cor. 12:4-13
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.
John 14:26
When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me.
John 15:26
When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, don't be anxious how or what you will answer, or what you will say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you must say."
Luke 12:11-12
However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but what-ever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
John 16:13
...But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Post #3Good post: Can I point out several things to you, not in criticism but as a point? I noticed you used the word "counselor" instead of the Greek 'Comforter.' In the New Testament, the word counselor refers only to the members of the Jewish Sanhedrim, see Mark 15:43, and Luke 23:50.1213 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:05 amI think these tell something about the power of Holy Spirit:placebofactor wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 6:12 pm Holy Spirit power. What’s your take on the following verse? But the Comforter speaks directly to the Holy Spirit as our advocate, intercessor, also called paraclete, who pleads our cause. This is one reason why using a correct Bible is necessary, just my opinion. I did like your post.

Re: Holy Spirit power, what is it?
Post #4[Replying to placebofactor in post #4]
Another good example of Holy Spirit power.
In John 3, the Pharisee, Nicodemus came to the Lord at night. Why did he come at night? It’s obvious; that he didn't want to be seen with Jesus in the daytime. I believe he came more for curiosity, but surely not to seek wisdom. Yet, Jesus gave Nicodemus a sound lesson on life. Did Nicodemus get it? No! He understood Christ only in part.
Unlike the apostles, who were given a much fuller view of Christ's teachings, Nicodemus was given a narrow view. Jesus showed the apostles miracles and spoke in parables. The disciples of Christ walked in His footsteps for three-and-one-half-years, and were, "Lifted up to heaven by His teachings."
But Nicodemus was left scrambling and groveling in the dust of the ground. He left spiritually hungry; he had no soul food.
Can you imagine what was going on in his mind? He was probably thinking, "Look at me! I am a member of the Sanhedrim! I have authority! I have power! My peers look up to me, as do the people! Who does this man Jesus think he is? He's a Nazarene! If seen with Him, I will lose respect, authority, and possibly my position in the Sanhedrim."
The lesson: Never think of yourself as higher than, or equal to the Holy Spirit, no man, even the Pope or Mohammad has ever sat at the Father’s right hand except Jesus Christ.
Nicodemus was a powerful man in his circle of friends, but powerless before God. Today men like the Pope, the Ayatollah, Putin, Kim Ju Un, and others wield great authority in politics, religion, science, medicine, sport, etc. Yet all of them are of the world and without the power of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s compare Nicodemus with the woman at the well. She came for a jug of water and left for home with the whole well. She drank of the Living water and became so overjoyed because she fully understood who Jesus was. Why? Because she believed. Unable to contain her joy, she went into town and told everyone about her experience.
"If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly (heart) shall flow rivers of living water."

James Baldwin wrote, "Identity would seem to be the garment with which one covers the nakedness of self, in which case, it is best that the garment be loose, a little like the robes of the desert, through which one's nakedness can always be felt, and sometimes discerned."
