Parable of the mustard seed

Post by Ross »

Matthew 13:31-32:

"He put before them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’"

What does this mean or what is it's interpretation please?
Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.

I have understood the meaning is, Kingdom of Heaven looks insignificant at first, but in the end it will be great.

If we use the meaning explained in a similarly worded parable, the wheat and the tares; then the sower is the Son of Man and the field is the world.

Would this not then interpret that the tree that grows is his earthly church?

I don't think God's kingdom is the same as earthly church. Earthly church is led by people who are not loyal to God, nor Jesus.

How about If I rephrase it and use Jesus own words "the sons of the kingdom"?

Church in Koine' Greek is ecclesia meaning 'the called out ones'
Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.
