I have no reason to doubt that Trump has some kind of vague belief in God. I do very much doubt that Trump is a worshiper.

Post #4Well, not of God. There appears to be many things he does worship. Power and control are likely possibilities for instance.help3434 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 5:46 am [Replying to historia in post #1]

It seems very unlikely that he is an atheist though.

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

And like any self respecting megalomaniac, himself.
If Trump gets in to power again, he will not need all those 'evangelical Christians ' any more......I think that will be a shock for many of his voters.

Post #6Good. You ought to vote for whosoever you like the policies of.Muckman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:22 pm [Replying to historia in post #1]
What does it even matter - I'm voting for him anyway!
There are very few reasons to do otherwise.
The religious argument seems to be, the one that is any good anyway, that it is probably better to vote for someone religious because they might be afraid that if they lie, cheat, steal, ruin the country, they might fear some sort of divine punishment. But this does not stop atheists from lying and saying they're religious, to become politicians. In this way I think someone who says they are an atheist, is likely to be at least honest.

They don't use the Bible to interpret their politics; they use their politics to interpret the Bible.
But their voters are still willing to overlook anything they do because "God uses imperfect people." They might even make excuses for it (So what if our guy is a skirt chaser? The kings of Israel had concubines!).The religious argument seems to be, the one that is any good anyway, that it is probably better to vote for someone religious because they might be afraid that if they lie, cheat, steal, ruin the country, they might fear some sort of divine punishment.

Re: Is Donald Trump an atheist?
Post #9Are these three statements about Trump what lead to your conclusion that he is an atheist? If so, can you justify why you think these are traits of atheists? I'm an atheist and am none of those things.justlearning wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 3:15 pm Re: Is Donald Trump an atheist?

Re: Is Donald Trump an atheist?
Post #10There's an argument that while not every atheist will have these traits, someone who does believe in God, will not. Imagine if you were egotistical (like I happen to be) and you thought that unless you dissolved that trait entirely, you'd go to Hell.
The one counterpoint is that if I thought I'd be tortured eternally for having a big head, I'd of course try not to be that way, but whether I'd succeed or not seems to be the bigger question. Frankly I think trying is how you end up with these passive-aggressive humble people who are very in-your-face with their obnoxious humility and self-effacement. I don't think it's that easy to change, but that's just my opinion.
