Re: Tree of Life?
Post #2From what I read, if one ate from it they would gain eternal life.
Genesis 3:22
The Lord God said, “Look, the man has become like us—he knows about good and evil. And now the man might take the fruit from the tree of life. If the man eats that fruit, he will live forever.”
Now why god couldn't have simply given man eternal life from the get go is anyone's guess, but my suspicion is that the writer of the fable wanted something to contrast to his tree of knowledge about good and evil. But why knowing about good would be verboten is a strange decree. Why couldnn't the tree be simply one of "knowledge about evil"? Is it not good to know good?

Re: Tree of Life?
Post #4But they could have eaten from it at any time prior to them eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil since it wasn't on the forbidden list. The supreme being was taking a chance that they hadn't eaten from it in case they ate from the forbidden one. But even if they did, they apparently could still eat from it because He kicked them out of the garden and wouldn't let them back in so that they couldn't.JehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 5:46 pm

Re: Tree of Life?
Post #5There is no indication that they knew of this second tree ; Eve made no mention if it and the only other mention of the Tree of life in the Genesis narrative is Gods thoughts about it when they were expelled. If God didn't want them to know of its existence or eat from the Tree of life he was more than capable ensuring they didn't do so by "accident" .rstrats wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 5:56 pmBut they could have eaten from it at any time prior to them eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil since it wasn't on the forbidden list. ...JehovahsWitness wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 5:46 pm

Maybe the reason not to give eternal life automatically for all is, then those who are evil, could make life eternal suffering for all.
Why think the fruit gives any knowledge? God doesn't say it gives knowledge, it's name is just the three of knowledge... ...people could have asked anything directly from God, if they wanted to know something. I don't think eating the fruit was about knowledge, but about vanity and idea to become like God.

Re: Tree of Life?
Post #10Not sure but in as much as most Bibles say "Take from . . . and eat" or "eating some of the fruit," I suppose one bite would be adequate. Although, as the ERV bible puts it, " If the man eats that fruit, he will live forever,” it might be necessary to eat the entire fruit.1213 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 5:23 am"Man eats that fruit, he will live forever", does that mean if one eats it every day, or one bite is enough?Miles wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 5:30 pmFrom what I read, if one ate from it they would gain eternal life.

Unless tress are capable of having knowledge---are they?---who's knowledge do you think "the tree of knowledge of good and evil" god is talking about? "Knowledge of" qualifies the good and evil. Why think the fruit gives any knowledge?
Then why do you think god bothered to use "knowledge of" to qualify the kind of tree it was?God doesn't say it gives knowledge, it's name is just the three of knowledge.
