Why is a prophet so often not received in his home town?
This is a question that bothers me. I am no blind believer, I have questions which I must explore when reading the Bible. This matter has bothered me, why would those Jesus was raised among, not accept He was the Messiah?

Because those who knew Jesus most closely knew he didn't do the things others claimed he did. It's not complicated.

I don't know. But,in my experience it is so that relatives and people that are from close tend to downplay those who are their relatives or close people, even if the person would do great things. Maybe it is because they don't want to look less than the other person. People that are not from close, often seem to appreciate more those that are not from near them. It is interesting issue.

It is an interesting thing . I wonder how it goes for other very famous people, film stars, politicians etc? Do their closest family and friends still see them always as just the person they have always known?

Serious though, it actually shows the authenticity of Jesus's life. His hometown rejected Him. That is how people are.
Of course, His cousin John the Baptist had his work. I wonder if he was similarly treated?

Because if the bible is to be believed, the Jesus didn't do anything particularly exceptional before he started his public ministry. If Jesus was regularly walking on water, multiplying the family loaves and curing lepers theres little doubt he would at least have been considerd a local phenonema, as it was it seems reasonable to conclude the bible text indicates he was a child much like any other. When Jesus did start his ministry his own brothers didnt put faith in him; they evidently couldnt get past their own limited view of him even when things changed.

MATTHEW 13:54

Coming to His hometown, He taught the people in their synagogue, and they were astonished. "Where did this man get such wisdom and miraculous powers?" they asked. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous? “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?

People generally find it hard to believe the extraordinary can grown in such ordinary soil.

Would be nice to know. But, I believe that for example if president would have a big brother, the brother would still think the president is his little brother and would treat him differently than president that would not be his brother.
