What did Jesus ever do, that we can see, to improve the lives of mankind?
As a Prophet, what prophecies did Jesus ever make that have been fulfilled?
Jesus was a charismatic orator....he said some great sayings.....but what did he ever do?
IMO, all we have from Jesus are unfulfilled promises. We have nothing concrete that we can see. Did Jesus die for your sins? How can you tell if he did or not? How can you tell if you still have sins or not?

So here's a question: Do you think that the information that is contained in the Bible about the life of Jesus must be proven to be true? If so, then this type of subject is better suited for the C&A forum.

WHAT DID JESUS ACTUALLY DO OF ANY VALUE?
The answer to this question very much depends on what one values. At the very least Jesus was a great teacher. While some may dismiss teachers as having of no practical value, this would be a a mistake. Indeed of all the actions one can pursue arguably the act of teaching is the nobelist as it not only imparts knowledge to others and thus raises them to a higher plain of existence, but plants seeds that can grow long after the teacher is gone.
What did he teach?
Jesus didnt build bridges or conquer empires, he did not introduce mankind to new technologies or his knowledge of new scientific or medical discoveries. He simply taught by word and example how love of God and of neighbour can change a person from within.
Christians of course believe in an added, more important achievement of Jesus, namely his laying the basis for the solving of all mankinds problems, but even those that do not entertain belief in the spiritual, do well not to dismiss too quickly the achievements of a man's whose words so moved his listeners they went in to change the course of human history.

Those that argue that we need roads not righteousness, technology not tenderness do well to open their history books at the pages that record the Holodomor, the Holocaust or the the Rwandan genocide to see mankinds problems are not lack of high-speed internet connections but a disconnect with fundamentals such a love, compassion and a basic recognition that all human life has value."A man’s greatness can be measured by what he leaves to grow, and whether he started others to think along fresh lines with a vigor that persisted after him. By this test Jesus stands first." - H G Wells

Post #4Great men change the course of human history, JW. Unfortunately change involves both good and bad, and so it was with Christ who threatened that he would deliberately cause division and strife. Thousands would be massacred in his name, many burned to let his kingdom come and palaces would fill the earth while the poor remained with us.JehovahsWitness wrote:

Others have taught the golden rule - Confucius did so before Jesus. The question: What did Jesus actually do? is a good one. And the answer, if we are honest, is that Jesus helped the spread of learning, through Rome, but brought misery to many through Christian persecution. Alexander waged war, but built great cities. Caesar gave us our calendar. It is very hard to see how Jesus stands above other great people. He contributed in a way, yes.

To be fair, where does it say he had to do* anything?
Was he supposed to do* anything? If so, who said?
I'm not defending him - just curious if anything other than a physical thing would count here.
* By using the term do/doing I assume you mean physical things.

What did he do?
He drove a wedge between God and those who are known as Christian.
Thats what he did. Nothing more. Oh but hell be back. Then he will perform the work of the Messiah. Christians- what is up with you guys? Stop calling soneone the Messiah when they dont deserve the title.
NO ONE IS THE MESSIAH UNTIL THE JEWS SAY IT IS. IF THEY ARE WAITING THEN YOU WILL TOO. PERIOD
True story- a rabbi and minister were in a long train ride. The minister was talking about Jesus to the rabbi but the rabbi didnt believe. The minister said you jews have been wrong before. You guys thought Bar Kockba was the messiah and he wasnt. The rabbi said Hiw do yiu know he wasn't the Messiah? The minister said : Because he died. The rabbi just looked at the minister and said no more. After a brief pause it was evident by the ministers expression that it dawned on him what he just said. Yes, because he died

Belief in Jesus is because our God is merciful.
The truth is that Christians do not want to keep the laws given by God at Sinai. If they did they would be Jews. Or still be Jews. They are attracted to Christianity because it teaches that you can be free from the law and God will still reward you.
GOD IS MERCIFUL. He has allowed man to choose him or reject him. Christians may say they don't reject him because believing in jesus is God's plan. Yeah, its his plan no doubt
They say jesus us God therefore they are obeying God. Well, if the trinity members are all God as they say then why is the only one they obey made if flesh. Its all about Jesus.
GOD IS MERCIFUL
Jesus was given to those who desire the pleasures of this world more than pleasing God. They arent giving up bacon. God was very clear when he said don't eat pig. Well, God is merciful. The disobedient will live out their days and go to the grave with a smile on their face. If they didn't have Jesus their days would be spent in misery knowing that turning away from God will have severe consequences. God is very merciful.
LIKE A PARTRIDGE THAT SITS ON EGGS AND DOESN'T HATCH THEM IS LIKE THE MAN WHO GETS RICHES AND NOT BY RIGHT; WILL LEAVE THEM IN THE MIDST OF HIS DAYS AND IN THE END SHALL BE A FOOL

Re: Jesus' Resume...WHAT DID HE DO?
Post #8If we accept the Gospel rumors about him we can know for certain that he made prophecies that did not come true. He told some individuals that they would personally see his return. Clearly any Christian who is expecting Jesus to return today knows that he didn't return while someone 2000 years ago was still alive.Red Wolf wrote: As a Prophet, what prophecies did Jesus ever make that have been fulfilled?
So, if we believe the Gospel rumors (which we are supposed to accept as being authoritative in this forum), then we have no choice but to conclude that Jesus was a false prophet that prophesied about things that never came to pass.

Re: Jesus' Resume...WHAT DID HE DO?
Post #9No, he did not. He said that some of his disciples would "see him coming in his Kingdom." That actually meant that they would see his glory, the glory he would have when he would eventually come to rule the world. Right after he said that, he took Peter, James, and John with him up on a mountain and they saw a VISION of him brightly shining like the sun. That was what he meant by some of his disciples would see him "coming in his Kingdom".....his Kingdom glory. He did NOT say they would literally see his return.Divine Insight wrote:If we accept the Gospel rumors about him we can know for certain that he made prophecies that did not come true. People who keep saying this are stuck in a somewhat ignorant rut, I dare say.
Jesus did many things, spiritually and physically. He showed what he would do one day during his Millennial Reign---cure diseases, raise the dead. And he was kind and loving, which undoubtedly encouraged the people and gave them some peace and hope. He also provided spiritually for them by speaking about the true God and teaching about His truths, including the fact that he would give himself for their sins, which is the greatest spiritual gift anybody could ever give.

Let me also say that you are right he was a great orator. But what christiabs fail to renember is that he said the words he speaks are not his. Nor did he come to do his will. And so here us thus unknown entity who they nothing about where he is going yet they have made him their lord and are following him into eternity. Scary!
And as for him dying for their sins...? What sins? I thought Jesus replaced the law? If there are no laws then how can one be guilty if sinning?
BELIEVING IN JESUS HAS DIRE CONSEQUENCES. BY BELIEVING IN JESUS, CHRISTIANS ARE ADMITTING TO GOD THAT THEY ARE FULLY AWARE OF THEIR DISOBEDIENCE. AND THAT TGEY ARE TRYING TO HIDE THEM FROM GOD BY HIDING BEHIND JESUS.
THE STORY OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN IS A LESSON THEY HAVE NOT LEARNED.
DO WHAT GOD COMMANDS
DON'T LISTEN TO ANOTHER VOICE ESPECIALLY IF THEY TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN DISOBEY GOD AND LIVE FOREVER.
ADAM AND EVE PROVED TO GOD THAT THEY KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG. HOW? THEY TRIED TO HIDE FROM GOD. AND WHAT DID GOD SAY TO THEM? HE SAID WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE NAKED?
GIDS GOING TO ASK THEM WHO TOLD THEM THEY NEEDED JESUS? THE ANSWER IS THEY TOLD THEMSELF. THEY KNOW THEY ARE SINNERS. THEY KNOW IT. AND THEY ARE TRYINGTO HIDE. WELL....WE KNOW HOW THAT WORKS.
CHRISTIANS HANG THEMSELVES BY BELIEVING IN JESUS. IT PROVES THEY KNOW THE LAWS. BUT THUMB THEIR NOSE AT GOD. THATS WHAT JESUS IS TO THEM.
