Maunday Thursday

Post by rstrats »

Does anyone who is familiar with Maundy Thursday, the day during Holy Week which commemorates the washing of the feet and last supper of the Messiah with the apostles know what part of Thursday that this took place - during the night time at the beginning of Thursday, or during the daytime toward the end of Thursday?

Online definition of supper is an evening meal, that makes the answer as during night time of the first half.(term)
So, I wonder what things happened on the first half of Good Friday?

If you mean of first half of Friday as after sunset of Friday, it is Saturday based on Bible counting.
What things? I don't know, but about Jesus, He is at the tomb on that evening.

No. The first half of Friday begins when Thursday ends at sunset.

So, at Bible reckoning, that is Friday evening.
That's the time Judas kissed Jesus.

But this topic is about Maundy Thursday which says that it took place on Thursday. My question was, when on Thursday?

In today's counting, it was Thursday evening that Jesus washed the disciples feet, it was after supper.
The word "supper," in Greek "δεῖπνον deipnon" defined by Bible lexicon as usually held at evening, food taken at evening, etc.

Jhn 13:4 *got up from supper and *laid His outer garments aside; and He took a towel and tied it around Himself.
Jhn 13:5 Then He *poured water into the basin, and began washing the disciples’ feet and wiping them with the towel which He had tied around Himself

G1173 (Thayer)
δεῖπνον deipnon
Thayer Definition:
1) supper, especially a formal meal usually held at the evening
1a) used of the Messiah’s feast, symbolising salvation in the kingdom
2) food taken at evening

We're talking about an event which took place some 2000 years ago in first century Jerusalem. Are you saying that they used today's counting back then?

Ok, you can use your term, was it first half of Friday then?
I've already answered when the washing of feet occurred defined by Bible lexicon.

re: "Ok, you can use your term, was it first half of Friday then?"

To what is "it" referring?

re: "I've already answered when the washing of feet occurred defined by Bible lexicon."

In your post #70 you wrote - "Online definition of supper is an evening meal, that makes the answer as during night time of the first half."

So, then the first half of Thursday. That is all the OP is asking.

Sorry, I was lost on the discussion before.
Thanks if that is all the OP is asking for.
