Christmas - Would Jesus Celebrate it?

It cannot be denied that there are some good behaviors that Christmas is supposed and many times does stir in people. Loving, giving and helping the less fortunate.

While there is nothing against these things in the Bible, in fact these things are highly encouraged. Still, there are many things in Christmas that it is widely known are not scriptural, but quite pagan.

For debate, if Christmas was around during Jesus' day would he have taken part in it?

There are two references in the Bible to birthdays and one veiled reference in Job. The two references in the Bible were Kings who celebrated their day by killing people. In Job, his children each celebrated their day and Job was concerned their celebration was a sin.

There is not a single other reference to anyone in the Bible celebrating a birthday in a favorable light. And since Christmas and Saturnalia are so closely related, the Israelites were instructed,

Deu. 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.

32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

I think Christmas falls squarely in that category.

And if you think it doesn't, I refer you to the reference of what sounds very much like a Christmas tree, not exactly painted in the best light.

Jer 10 3 For the customs of the people [are] vain; for one cuts a tree out of the forest with the axe, the work of the hands of the workman.

4 They adorn it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers, so that it will not wobble.

Anyone a fan of Alexander Hislop?

I apologize Wootah. My brain takes off sometimes. And outruns me. Then I end up before the moderator feeling like an idiot. Thanks for the heads up.
