Lake of fire

Post by achilles12604 »

Question for everyone. The lake of fire referred to by the traditional Christian/ Catholic/ Fundi churches.

Is it literally a lake of fire? It is figurative? Other?
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

God created the devil as an immortal spiritual being. That being the case, God cannot kill the devil.
Please provide the scripture that says this.
As far as I know, there are none.
To the contrary, the scriptures say the Devil will be destroyed.

Revelation 20:10 (King James Version)

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

If the devil will be tormented forever and ever, then the devil is immortal.
You claimed,
God created the devil as an immortal spiritual being. That being the case, God cannot kill the devil.

Revelation 20:10 reads,
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

That scripture does not say the Devil is immortal. nor does it say God cannot kill the Devil.
Your interpretation of the scriptures is not scriptures. Do you understand that, and do you agree?
Absolutely not.

Definition of immortal: living forever; never dying or decaying.

Do you believe that definition of immortal?

If so, then the devil is immortal according to Revelation 20:10!

If the devil is tormented forever, then he is alive forever.

Do you believe that definition of immortal?

If you believe your interpretation is scripture, then you would have to believe everyone's interpretation is scripture, but you do not believe that, do you.

The definition of immortal is not as you loosely defined it, because living forever, does not necessarily apply to immortality.

immortal
  • adjective
    1. Not subject to death.
      "immortal deities; the immortal soul."
    2. Never to be forgotten; everlasting.
      "immortal words."
    3. Of or relating to immortality.
    4. Capable of indefinite growth or division. Used of cells in culture.
    5. Not mortal; exempt from liability to die; undying; imperishable; lasting forever; having unlimited, or eternal, existence.
    Similar: undying; imperishable
Connected with, or pertaining to immortality.
  • noun
    1. One not subject to death.
    2. One whose fame is enduring.
    3. One who will never cease to be; one exempt from death, decay, or annihilation.
The context for live forever, can change, while the context for immortality remains the same.
We do not read in Revelation 20:10 that the Devil is immortal.
This is what we read:
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever, refers to the Devil, the beast, and the false prophet.
If your interpretation of this verse is... If the devil is tormented forever, then he is alive forever, then according to you, the beast and the false prophet are alive forever, and suffering physical torment.

How can that be?
How does the beast - world powers - suffer torment forever and ever, and how are they alive?

Is it because they will suffer the same death (destroy) by fire with the cherub (an angelic being) in Ezek 28:16.

No, it is symbolic of men's governments. Just as the Great Harlot is symbolic for false religion.

Only spiritual bodied beings can be tormented forever and ever. So if the devil, false prophet, and beast are tormented forever, they are not physical bodied beings which can be hurt by the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:10 (King James Version)
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
