An interesting fact concerning Jesus' post resurrection appearances is that the only people that the Bible reports having seen the allegedly risen Jesus are followers of Jesus.
If the church of Scientology reported that L Ron Hubbard rose from the dead, met with his followers and then after 40 days went to heaven, would you believe that Hubbard rose from the dead? Do you believe that Jesus rose from the dead, met with his followers for 40 days and then went to heaven?
According to the gospels, Jesus made the following prophecy.....
Matthew 12:39-40(King James Version)
39But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
In this prophecy, Jesus is predicting his death, and that after 3 days and 3 nights in the grave, he would show himself to his "evil and adulterous generation" as a sign that he had risen from the dead.
The prophecy failed because Jesus never showed himself alive to his "evil and adulterous generation" as a sign that he had risen from the dead.
Jesus only showed himself to his own followers according to the Bible. Presumedly, his own followers were not evil and adulterous.
Proof positive...an unfulfilled prophecy...a false prophet...no resurrection.

Re: Sign of Jonah unfulfilled...False prophecy..False Prophe
Post #21I believe he died on Wednesday evening. Reason why I believe so is that according to the Bible, Jesus was not in the tomb Sunday morning and it was said he will be in grave 3 days and nights. Calculating from that, earliest possible day is Wednesday. And as said in post 12, the preparation day was not for weekly Shabbat, but Passover Shabbat, because Bible tells it was “special Shabbat day. And it was probably Thursday that was the special Shabbat day, which means Jesus died on Wednesday eening and was raised in Saturday evening. Basically, it could be that it was even earlier, after all, founding empty tomb on Sunday doesn’t mean Jesus had resurrected then, it could have happened earlier.Zzyzx wrote: Okay. When did Jesus die?
Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn't remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Post #22I only remember Lazarus, which was done by Jesus
Whom are the others? And who did their resurrections?
How do those (seemingly) dilute the miracle that is Jesus's resurrection?

Post #23In addition to Lazarus, Jesus also raised a little girl ("Talitha cumi!"). (Mark 5:35-41, told somewhat differently in Luke 8:40-42, 49-56)Menotu wrote:I only remember Lazarus, which was done by Jesus

Here are the non-Jesus raisings:
- Elijah raised a widow's son. (1 Kings 17:17-24)
- Elisha raised a woman's son that had died of a headache. (2 Kings 4:17-37)
- I don't know if you count this or not, but a dead body touched Elisha's bones and came back to life. (2 Kings 13:20-21)
- Peter raised Tabitha. (Acts 9:36-43)
- Paul raised Eutychus, who was so bored by Paul's sermon that he fell out of a window and died. (Acts 20:7-12)

What's the difference?
Is one more 'special' than the other?
It's a smiting rather than a raising

What's a murder voice?Peter was also able to kill Ananias and Sapphira with just his murder voice.

No. That's why I included both.Menotu wrote:Is one more 'special' than the other?
Peter could make people die just by talking to them.Menotu wrote:What's a murder voice?Peter was also able to kill Ananias and Sapphira with just his murder voice.
"But Peter said, 'Ananias, why did Satan convince you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While it remained, did it not remain yours and after it was sold, was it not in your power? How is it that you have thought this in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.' And Ananias hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost. And great fear came upon all that heard it."
"But Peter said to her, 'How is it that you have agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them that have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out.' And she fell down immediately at his feet, and gave up the ghost: and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband."

Acts 5:1-11 gives a full account of a man and wife killed by Peter's voice for giving the apostles only part of the money from the sale of (their?) land. That put fear into all people of the church (perhaps ensuring they would give more generously?).

Post #27I was thinking for example this:Menotu wrote: …I only remember Lazarus, which was done by Jesus
Whom are the others? And who did their resurrections?
How do those (seemingly) dilute the miracle that is Jesus's resurrection?
The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
Matt. 27:52
I believe all resurrections are essentially by God, by God’s power.
I think that in Biblical point of view, resurrection is not a miracle, if done by God. If you could do that, then I think it would more likely be a miracle.
Re: Sign of Jonah unfulfilled...False prophecy..False Prophe
Post #28So then, would you say nothing God has done is a miracle? I admit it would be pretty mundane for such a being. Is that what you're saying or only resurrection not a miracle?1213 wrote:I was thinking for example this:Menotu wrote: …I only remember Lazarus, which was done by Jesus

Matthew 27:52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53 After Jesus’ resurrection, when they had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people.
Why ignore this claim? Is it too irrational to present as truth?
Correction: MANY 'resurrections' were claimed in Bible tales.
