"Where Have All the Christians Gone?
The number of people who claim no religious affiliation, meanwhile, has doubled since 1990 to fifteen percent, its highest point in history.
Christianity is plummeting in America, while the number of non-believers is skyrocketing.
A shocking new study of Americans’ religious beliefs shows the beginnings of a major realignment in Americans’ relationship with God. The American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) reveals that Protestants now represent half of all Americans, down almost 20 percent in the last twenty years. In the coming months, America will become a minority Protestant nation for the first time since the pilgrims.
Young people are fleeing faith. Nearly a quarter of Americans in their 20’s profess no organized religion.
Today, the rise of disaffection is so powerful that different denominations needs to band together to find a shared language of God that can move beyond the fading divisions of the past and begin moving toward a partnership of different-but-equal traditions.
Or risk becoming Europe, where religion is fast becoming an afterthought."

Jayhawker, at least we agree on some things, anyway, I hear nothing from the Christians lamenting a the missing Christians (In China our numbers are growing) so I feel its not even worth mentioning.Jayhawker Soule wrote:I suspect that religious literacy is at an all time low.VermilionUK wrote:Could it be because people are learning more - and in the process are discovering more about Christianity - and thus are realising its flaws in logic/sense?
That is no doubt true for some and untrue for others. And the first group is, I suspect, highly heterogeneous, including many who have the most shallow understanding and appreciation of what they read.VermilionUK wrote:From my point of view: the more you read the bible, the more Atheist you become.
However it seems to be important to the atheists for some reason. As for FOX news their ratings are very high while propaganda mills (MSNBC etc) ratings are falling through the basement. I love it. I watch a mix (except MSNBC, it makes me ill) of news from Ummah News to PBS to FOX.

When Selfish Gene author Richard Dawkins challenged physicist John Barrow on his formulation of the constants of nature at last summer Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Fellowship lectures, Barrow laughed and said, “You have a problem with these ideas, Richard, because you aren''t really a scientist. You''re a biologist ! (Woo Hoo you go Barrow!)

I think that FOX is the propaganda mill and the reason others are going down is because there are many simple minded Rush Lymbaugh and Jerry Springer type of folks in this country that think trash.

What are your sources for those claims? I think you believe the propaganda ? The reason FOX is so hated is because they are religion friendly. Family values related. Right wing friendly. Palin friendly*. Btw you misspelled Rush Limbaugh. If you are going to criticize the intelligence of his listeners you might want to get the spelling correct?

I usually don't complain about someonne's spelling unless they complain. However it seems to be important to the atheists for some reason. As for FOX news their ratings are very high while propaganda mills (MSNBC etc) ratings are falling through the basement. I love it. I watch a mix (except MSNBC, it makes me ill) of news from Ummah News to PBS to FOX.
I ask my daughter how to spell Rush's last name and even her getting it wrong is not a sign of her intellegence. Your bringing up my spelling does show that you don't mind making irrelavant critisms when you have nothing to say.
How is FOX so hated when the rates are so high? It sounds like you just make up crap so you can find some stupid thing to say about atheists as you repeat your propaganda. Fox is no more about family values then the Bible is.
Here you display your great intellegence as CO2 doesn't come into existence from burning fuel.A thought comes into existence caused by the brain a fart comes into existence from the decay of food CO2 comes into existence from burning carbon based fuel. Ok ? See its crazy.
In that same thread thread you state:
Here you are saying the brain causes thought while in another post you claim to not know where thoughts come from:
Code: Select all
I don't throw my hands up. I offer an reasonable argument supported by logic. More than one argument. There are several evidences for the existence of God. We can know God. God is a spirit. There is no proof of where consciousness arises or even if it even originates in the brain.
But it seems any 5th grader could do better at explaining CO2 and its relationship to fire and fuel.
Co2 did not come into existence but was formed by the transference of matter into energy and Co2.
In fact we never really see anything come into existence as matter and energy are never created or distroyed; they are transformed.
Where do you think thought comes from?
I don't think Rush Limbaugh is all that stupid as he knows what sells and how to please the simple minded, just like FOX News.
