Heaven

Post by Caligar »

I find that whenever I ask what heaven is, people say "a place you go to after you die". I also find that when I ask what you do there the answer is "whatever you want". What if two people wanted contradictory things?
I.e., if one person wanted to win a football game, and another person on the opposing team wanted the same (you'll have to pardon the bad example, but the point is applicable to most situations), what would happen?

What im basically asking is, what is heaven?

I guess it depends on which heaven we are talking about. Paul mentions being caught up to the third heaven, and he also mentioned that Jesus ascended FAR ABOVE ALL heavens, showing that there is an even higher place to go - but where is that?

Also, in his speech to Nicodemus, Jesus mentioned that no man has acsended up to heaven, except he that came down from heaven, even the son of man WHO IS IN HEAVEN - present tense.

I have admitted to an extra ordinary experience of contact with the mind of God.
Here is what I gleamed of the experience and my thoughts to our future.

When there I was aware of God as well as the essence of the souls with Him. I had the impression of impatience form these souls. As if they were in a hurry for us to learn more of God so that we could progress to what I call the next quanta of knowledge or information.
The Heaven that I saw is like here in the sense of the search for truth. These souls then are waiting for the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a new Earth that God will provide when He thinks that conditions are right for the creation of this new earth. Our end time.
This would explain why Heaven is numbered by the older prophets.

topaz: "6-there will be animals in heaven just as there were in eden. The animals that are poisonous, predators will no longer bear this attribute. Instead, they will be gentle and harmless. "

I am curious, topaz, as to how you know this. Is it mentioned in the Bible? Also, what of our pets in our life time. Will they go to heaven? Or will God simply create new animals?

ok. Heaven is the realm of spirits which exists above our but not literally like in the clouds. Gods family lives there which include all angels/ spirit creatures that serve him. topaz had good points but i contradict. revelation 21 says there will be a new heavens and a new earth for the former have passes away. that doesn't mean heaven and earth are going to literally be destroyed. the bible says god laid the earths foundations and they will not be made to totter. the earth will never be destroyed neither will heaven. the passing away was the order of heaven and earth marking the beginning of Jesus' rule as Gods king. Heaven is like a whole other universe for spirit beings. The ascending far above the heavens thing was because Paul was literally having a vision of Jesus flying up into the air and taking his place at gods side. the heavens he was referring to was the sky. he ascended high above the sky. not to some greater heaven. Animals will not be in heaven. Gods original purpose was for mankind to spread out and dominate the earth and live in paradise. We have no reason to assume this purpose has changed. animals will live in paradise or the new eden which will be the whole earth once it has been cleansed of wickedness. never does it say that animals go to heaven and since animals cannot come to know Jesus or God it's basely contradictive to assume they will enter heaven. Again the vegi eating thing is paradise not heaven. heavenly creatures are immortal and don't need to eat food. they are spirits they don't have flesh to nourish.

Why did Jesus and Elijah (and for the Catholics, Mary) ascend to heaven, if it's not above us.

Myth.
To the believer, no proof is necessary; to the skeptic, no proof is enough.
