Could I ask a favor?

Hi. I want to ask that only people who truly want to learn more about what the Bible says about living forever in Paradise on Earth to post on this thread. Please. I don't want to argue. I would very much appreciate it if people who think everybody is either going to heaven or to Hell would not start a battle of words here. I hope to hear from people who think that PSALM 37:9-11, and also verse 29, sounds pretty good. Thank you. OWH

As far as Heaven goes, I'm curious about this verse:

Revelation 22:5
5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.

Will there literally be no nighttime? I like night

No, I don't think so because night is literally the time when the light from a planet's nearest star cannot reach the surface of said planet, but I dont believe Heaven is on any planet. (The verse isn't actually speaking about heaven itself but rather about the members that make up new Jerusalem, "the city" -see Rev 22:3).

When I was a Christian I read a book by Randy Alcorn titled Heaven. It totally changed my understanding of heaven at the time. I began to wholeheartedly believe that Heaven will be right here on earth. IMO Alcorn presented an unassailable case for earth heaven from the Bible. I no longer believe in either heaven or hell but I do believe this is what the Bible teaches. If you haven't read it you definitely should.

No, there was more to it. The current heaven is not on this earth. But after Christ returns and after the judgment, according to the book of Revelation, there will be a new heaven and new earth. As I recall Revelation, John sees the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven where the throne of God is. The city is a cube 1500 miles in every direction and supposedly has the mansions Jesus mention for the saved and the streets of gold. The New Jerusalem will be the new dwelling place of God. Those who were saved during the 7 years of tribulation and all those saved during the ages that follow will abide on the earth itself.

That's a very brief and incomplete description of the book.

I think he's wrong about what the New Jerusalem is, has failed to correctly understand what the vision of it "coming down out of heaven" actually means. Is completely wrong if he is saying there will be literal streets made of gold on earth (very impracticle, gold very weak metal) and is wrong that Almighty God will leave his residence in heaven to live on planet earth (ludicrous idea). I also disagree with his reading about the tribulation and the resurrection. The book sounds silly.

I knew you would, JW. Have you ever considered that YOU might not correctly understand what the vision means?

Perhaps the streets will not be used by trucks, SUV's, or even Volkswagons. But if God wanted to make gold hard as granite he probably could, right? But I'm glad that you're thinking scientifically.

I'm sorry that your vision of God is so limited. Cannot God do as he pleases? If he wants to live among the creatures he created why can't he? But perhaps you have evidence that God prefers to live apart from those he loves so much.

Perhaps, still Gold is also a heat conductor so on a hot day it will be very uncomforable to walk on.... ok in shoes I suppose but not so good for any little ones running around in bare feel ...

Right. But for those of us still in use of the brain God gave us, we ask the question "Why should he?" Especially as he has already created much stronger and more practical metals humans can use in construction.

It's not so much scientifically, just with applying a minimum of common sense, I try and do that as often as possible. Granted we can figured in miraculous intervention is doing so is incompatible with logic and common sense?

I didn't pronounce the book silly, I said the book "sounds" silly, in other words, your "very brief and incomplete description " makes it {quote} "...sound silly".

Granted perhaps you have indeed done the book an injustice, but if you synopsis contains an accurate outline of some of its conclusion (for example, that God will literally take up permanant reside on the miniscule speck that constitutes our planet earth, that streets will literally be paved with soft metals that conduct heat and electricity, presumably to better shock or burn the children) then it sounds like complete nonsense to me. As Solomon said, there's no shortage of books and life is too short to waste time on one written by an author that seems to have no common sense, implies God performing useless miracles for no particular purpose, an inability to take context into account and doesn't seem to know what a metaphor is.
