John 14.6 contradicted

Post by Elijah John »

Psalm 145.17-18
Upright in all that he does, Yahweh acts only in faithful love. He is close to all who call upon him, all who call on him from the heart.
NJB

vs.

John 14.6
Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
NJB

For debate: How can one reconcile these two seemingly contradictory verses. And if they cannot be reconciled, which one do you support as more authentic, more a reflection of the will of God, and why?
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

It's the same Him.

So all All who call on Him are calling on Jesus.

YHWH - THE Hand reveals the nail reveals.

Him is Jesus.

YHWH = Jesus.

Question for you: How does psalm 145 alter your belief God only has to show mercy?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Alter or support? My position (supported by Scripture) that blood is not needed for forgiveness is in no way saying that I am against the notion of God's justice when necessary. Don't you think He has the infinite wisdom to temper justice with mercy on a case by case basis?

Also, by equating Jesus with Jehovah as the same "Him", makes John 14.6 non-senseical. "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to me but by me." Really?? If it's the same "Him" then it is the same "Me" is it not?

Case by case basis is no basis for justice. You are not asking for a just God only a merciful one.

Not if you believe in the triune nature of God.

Please don't tell me what I believe or what I am "asking for" in God. I just told you I believe in God's wisdom, and His ability to temper justice with mercy.

And what does believing or not believing in the "Triiune" nature of God have to do justice?

JWs do not believe in God's "Triune" nature, yet they have beliefs similar to yours regarding blood atonement.

I will continue to point out flaws in arguments on this forum. You may not like it, but it's OK.

Your argument is that God can be merciful to whom He wills and you want to still call that just. It's not logical.

It just so happens that psalm 145 reminded me of your belief and psalm 145 stands against it.

JWs may well be stumped by this question. My initial thought is that your contradiction is valid unless Jesus is YHWH.

Both are relevant. It is a matter of the heart and the heart sees no conflict. There is no 'vs'

There is no 'us'. There is only I AM.

Peace to you EJ,

[Replying to post 1 by Elijah John]

Interestingly, most verses are translated this way:

Yahweh is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."

No contradiction there then.

My Lord existed from the beginning EJ. He guided Israel through the wilderness; He is the Word of God who came to the prophets; He often spoke through David and David spoke of Him (JAHVEH said to my Lord - 'my lord' meaning Christ), and many scriptures (most even) bear witness to HIM, even though the erring pen of the scribes did not realize who the LIGHT or the WORD or the TRUTH or WISDOM truly was.

He even came and explained Daniels vision to him (Daniel 10).

And Moses said that the people were to listen to the Messiah when He came.

You do not have to discard Jaheshua as the Messiah and as the Son of God, just because you (correctly) reject the trinity.

Just listen to Christ. He tells us who He is. He is the One who God told us to listen to (just as Moses told Israel, and as the scriptures bear witness to Christ, and as John the Baptist did as well).

He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me. Matthew 10:40

Whoever listens to you listens to Me; whoever rejects you rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me." Luke 10:16

“Whoever believes in Me does not believe in Me alone, but in the One who sent Me. And whoever sees Me sees the One who sent Me. John 12:44, 45

All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Matthew 11:27

Peace again to you, and to your household,
your servant and a slave of Christ,
tammy

If you think my arguments are flawed, all well and good. No problem with you pointing that out. But please make absolutely certain you understand my position and are representing it accurately. I never advocate for the position that God is only merciful, as you seem to suggest.

On the contrary, the best Fathers (and the ultimate Father, YHVH) also discipline. But they do not demand blood in order to enable them to forgive their chilidren. Jesus metaphor of Father for God is at odds with the idea that God is a legalistic judge, or needs to be appeased with blood, needing blood satisfaction.

Thanks for the clarification on what the Trinune God has to do with the subject at hand. I see what you mean on this.
