Why are people so determined

Post by Elijah John »

Why are so many people so determined to worship Jesus? It is not a Biblical imperative. "Worship Jesus" is not a Commandment. And there is plenty of Biblical evidence that Jesus is not God. (Just talk to any Jehovah's Witness, most seem adept at supporting their beliefs with Scripture)

So why is it that so many people are so determined to worship Jesus? Even in light of evidence (Biblical and otherwise) that Jesus is not God.

Childhood or cultural conditioning? Indoctrination? Or hero worship taken to the extreme?

Is the prevelance of Jesus-worship evidence of a very human tendency to worship our heroes?
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

Needles are by definition tiny, so that's a plus as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, you asked if I'm worried and I've answered the question, no not in the least. I believe that one of the requirements of the true religion is that it be relatively small and be followed by a minority not the majority.

Is there anything else you would like to ask me about my beliefs?

Why? I know we are getting a little of topic here, but I am curious. It seems counter-intuitive to suggest that a true religion would be followed only by a minority. Rather, I think that a true religion would attract those seeking truth, as opposed to repel them.

I more naturally stand with Milton, who said, “Let [Truth] and Falsehood grapple; who ever knew Truth put to the worse, in a free and open encounter?

Why do you expect truth to lose out to falsehood?

Hardly. Give us some examples of this.

Also, outside of the NT there is absolutely no evidence that "Jesus is God".

Then you should maybe consider starting your own thread or ask over in Questions for a Group. I or another witness may well respond (we all have the same beliefs so it doesn't have to be me)

Christianity is the largest religion on earth. As of 2015, there were approximately 2.3 billion Christians in the world. If your belief is accurate, Christianity is clearly not the true religion.

John 17:3 in context with the rest of chapter 17 actually agrees with the trinity, especially when the rest of the Trinitarian versus in the Bible are taken into consideration.

How so? Please demonstrate and be specific. If not this is just an unsupported claim.

While modern Christians may not be very in touch with their Jewish roots or be well read, there are some very good reasons why. But before I answer I ask this, what would be significantamount evidence? Because there isa very good evidence to the text calling Jesus Godas well. This is not to saythatand the Jesus was right, oris that the writers of the New Covenant where right, or any comboof you might want to throw out. I dont want toget play a semantics game. So just to make it clear we are looking for evidence of why "Jesus worshippers" believe the way they do, I whether they are right or wrong correct?

Why are so many people so determined to worship Jesus?
What is the definition (or content) of "worship" here? Do we mean, singing songs about him? Praying to him?

I am not sure "imperative" is the best choice here; true worship is natural, and springs from belief. Christians believe Jesus is God; the very concept of God elicits (for some) affections.
