Show me the scripture

John 20:9 :
"For as yet they knew not the
scripture, that he must rise
again from the dead"

Can someone show me the scripture or scriptures that say the Messiah must rise again from the dead?

Still his disciples didn't know what kind of Messiah Jesus was, evidenced by John's declaration and the brothers who asked to sit on Jesus' right and left hand when the kingdom comes. It doesn't seem Jesus' teaching was about his death and resurrection.

You're right, the disciples didn't understand quite a few things. But at least they had been looking for the Messiah at the time he arrived.

They may have wanted to kill Jesus because they believed he was another false messiah claimant and trouble maker who would bring the wrath of Pilate and the Roman army upon them. Their expectation from scriptures was not a Messiah like Jesus .

everyone was looking for the Messiah when Jesus arrived. there were several claimants before and after Jesus appeared. they all ended in disaster . They were killed and their followers dispersed. The miracle of Jesus' is that his disciples although initially disbursed regathered and carried on his Messiahship.
