Why didnt Jesus like the pharisees?

If the law is enough why didnt Jesus like the pharisees?

Why didnt jesus tell the young man, 'well done for following the law i'll see you in heaven'?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Read the 23rd chapter of Matthew and Jesus explains it.
Great chapter. Good book. You should reply to Tam.

I dont think we have a doctrinal issue here other than what Tam points out about the JW.

I would agree with you, every Christian should do as they choose regarding all those things.

The elders in the Christian congregation ("the church") should also do their job as instructed.

Jesus drank wine. The bible doesn't suggest drinking alcohol in moderation should be prohibited.

Jehovah's Witnesses are Christian ministers, someone the regularly over indulges in alcohol can be a danger to themselves and others, and if someone is unrepentant in this regard they will not be permitted to continue to represent Jehovah in the community.

All Christians must make personal decisions about what they choose to wear and how they should groom themselves. No organization should make those decisions for a Christian. My own organization for example does not have a list of approved garb for its ministers or a fixed uniform, nor is there any list about what each Christian should or should not wear. (Jehovah's Witness Bethel homes - Branch offices - like some restaurants and companies such as Disney, do have a dress code)

Do Jehovah's Witnesses prohibit beards?
  • No. Facial hair, as long as it is clean and well presented is permitted depending on how it will be perceived by the local community. Where I live for example which is about 80% Muslim, a man with a beard will be associated with a radical form of that religion. Most of our brothers therefore choose not to wear beards as, while it is their right, choose to not impose unnessesary barriors between them an a possible listening ear to the Good News.

The bible says we should do all things for God's glory, any Christian Jehovah's Witness can wear any kind of beard he chooses but if the local elders deem it inappropriate because of how beards are viewed by the community, that individual while free to dress and associate with his brothers and sisters as he wants, will not necessarily be given added responsibilities in the congregation.

Does the bible say God even CARES about dress and grooming?
DEUTERONOMY 22:11
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.

LEVITICUS 19:27
Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.

NUMBERS 15:37
Throughout the generations to come you must make tassels for the hems of your clothing and attach them with a blue cord.
Since Christians are not under the Mosaic law, doesn't that mean that Christian men and women can dress and groom themselves as they like?
1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatsoever else you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 PETER 3:3
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.

Nobody should tell another person if they should celebrate their birthday or not and my organization JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES have never told anyone what to do in this regard. That is an absolutely personal decision for each individual or family head.
  • That said, the bible however does indicate how God feels about birthday celebrations and we (JWs) believe that we should be free to refrain from celebrating them for reasons of conscience should we so choose. We also believe we should not be stigmatized or persecuted for this decision nor should our children be bullied or ridiculed.

Yes, I'm with you on this one Tam. This is shocking, I would NEVER belong to a religion that prohibited mercy and understanding! That's why I chose to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses because its a religion governed by and motivated by LOVE.

Of course shunning is a biblical requirement for unrepentant sinners, but I can personally testify that in my religion for example, repentant sinners are shown love and understanding and given the help to change. Have you come across a religion that prohibited mercy and understanding, if you name this religion I'll be sure to keep well away from it!

Yes, Jehovah's Witnesses have never told people they are not permitted to smoke* Jehovah's Witnesses have never said otherwise.

*We do not however, permit individuals to smoke in our "churches" or during our religious services

That said, True Christians are guided by bible principles, such as to love their neighbour as themselves, and should ask:
MARK 12:31

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -
King James Bible
- Is smoking showing proper love for my own body?
- If a Christian should not willfully inflict harm on someone else, would it be Christ-like to inflict harm and disease causing chemicals on my own body?
- Is smoking loving to my partner or children?
- Is it loving to indulge in something that is none essential that could result in taking a father/mother away in death from their children?
ROMANS 7:1
Let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit
- Is smoking a clean habit? or does smoking violate the biblical principle to avoid as best as possible "defilement" of body?

Jehovah's Witnesses certainly believe anyone that wants to smoke should be free to make their own decision and do so and no JWs publication will ever be found by any of our critics telling people they cannot smoke. Jehovah's Witnesses however hold to bible law and principle and believe smoking tobacco is incompatible with being an ordained Christian Minister as it is both unloving to oneself and others and unclean. Thus no smoker will ever qualify to become a Christian JW Minister.

After reading Matt. chapter 23 I found myself thinking this is a diatribe originating from the author of Matthew in Matthew's fight with the Pharisees after being expelled Jesus Christ's believers from the synagogues.
This diatribe originated not with Jesus but with Matthew .

And for the second question , I'd like to believe there are some righteous people among us.

I would respectfully like to ask Jehovah witness to start her own thread discussion instead of hijacking every thread into a JW infomercial .
